My younger dd will be 40 on Wednesday shock (we are off to the Spa) not the shop! lol

But I just thought "heck" 40!

So............. what happened when you "Blinked"

Skydancer Mon 26-Sep-22 12:32:22

Seriously...can anyone think of a way to slow things up?

PollyDolly Mon 26-Sep-22 12:15:35

I was able to retire and it was all the more delightful having been offered a wonderful severance package.

Helenlouise3 Mon 26-Sep-22 12:14:03

I'm 64, have a son of 43 and a daughter of 41. I have 6 grandchildren the eldest being 23. Time is passing far too quickly.

I think the doctor was very ageist to say to someone "You remember that? Can you remember why were you here?

If your children are only aged around 30, you must still be under 70, and anyway, most older people, unless they have dementia, have perfectly good memories - and I can remember quite clearly the why, whens and hows and hospitals where my children were born - and they are around 50, come to that I can remember my 'baby' sister being born over 70 years ago.

I am afraid that doctor would have had a friendly joky reprimand from me.

I was in the hospital for an endoscopy today. I said to the doctor, "I was in this exact hospital 30 years ago today." He said, "You remember that? Can you remember why were you here?"
I replied, "Yes. Giving birth to my son!" ??
My 'baby' is now 30 - nearer to 60 than to the day he was born - and he's a strapping lad, nice and tall, towers over lil old me!
Yup, I blinked. And his sister will be 32 next month.
I just want to know, WHERE did all that time go??

^The biggest blinking surprise though is I am 72….What!??? Am I now an adult?^ ?

I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up, Kalu ?

If I could sing there's be no problem

That made me laugh, because I said exactly the same thing, that I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up, to my 11 year old dgs (who has just started at secondary school) last weekend..

And it's true. With hindsight, I know what sort of career would have suited me if I could go back and take with me the self awareness and self confidence aquired throughout my adult life, but sadly life doesn't work like that.

I was advised some time ago to stop blinking!

Hellogirl1 Sun 25-Sep-22 15:21:19

I blinked again and my eldest grandchild is 31!

BlueSapphire Sun 25-Sep-22 10:59:11

My DS is 43; his partner (my DD-out-law), will be 50 soon; she was born the year late DH and I were married!
And DD will be 40 in January...

Sar53 Sun 25-Sep-22 10:44:24

I blinked, looked in the mirror and it was my mum looking back. How I miss her xx

My eldest daughter, 46, has been told she is going through the peri-menopause. I have two teenage granddaughters.

Many congratulations Calendargirl.

Yep Bikergran my son is 40 in December, how did that happen?
On the same day my beautiful grandson will be 8. He was a babe in arms.
All in the blink if an eye.

We moved in to this house, 5 minutes ago when I was 40.
The millennia when they told us the world would come to halt when computers blew up . (Actually 2020 and pandemic did that)

How did we get 2022 almost 2023

Katyj Sun 25-Sep-22 10:16:30

It’s scary isn’t it. Mine are 42 and 39. Our oldest grandchild 20 ! But, I can’t believe we’ve been married 44 years ?where the heck did that go.

BigBertha1 Sat 24-Sep-22 22:06:41

I blinked and my life was gone.

Having a baby at a very young age means being a mum to an adult of fifty-something while in your 60s..... One of the reasons (if this is you) never to hesitate to tell someone your real age!

Very comforting, Davida1968 but I was an elderly primigravada!

My dad is 87, he can't believe he has a dd who is a pensioner lol.

Deedaa Sat 24-Sep-22 20:32:34

A ninety year old aunt once told me "Wait until your daughter is 60 - then you'll feel old!" At the moment DD is 48 so I've got a way to go yet!

Witzend Sat 24-Sep-22 20:23:34

mayisay

What about when your daughters start going through the menopause. That felt really wierd!

When I was coming up to 50, my mother horrified me by saying, ‘Oh, that’s good - you’ll be able to go on Saga holidays now.’
Over 20 years later dh and I still don’t feel we’re there yet - I do know a lot of people rate them very highly though. A widowed friend has enjoyed more than one solo long-haul holiday with them.

I read recently that the number of years from 1882 to 1952 is the same as the number of years from 1952 to 2022.

That really can't be right shock

I am giving this growing up lark some serious thought. ?

Ladyripple Sat 24-Sep-22 18:03:20

I blinked and realised in a few weeks time I will have been a widow 25years.

I am 74 and have honestly lost 10years,no idea where they went.

BlushingSheep Sat 24-Sep-22 17:49:25

I was going to say that I blinked and then I was in my 50s, but I might get lynched wink

What a lovely post Calendargirl Many congratulations to you both??

What a blinking surprise to realise both DDs are in their 40s, eldest peri menopausal and, another surprise, both GDs are teenagers, eldest off to university next year. The biggest blinking surprise though is I am 72….What!??? Am I now an adult??

Wyllow3 Sat 24-Sep-22 16:14:48

This blinking business is clearly dangerous.
Those lines in the mirror......nah....

Congratulations, Calendargirl
