I had to go to M and S first thing and it seems so did a lot of other old grans. I queued behind a nice lady of a similar age who only had a small shopping. What a mistake. She let it all pile up before searching for bags and slowly packing as she chatted to the lad on the till. Then she produced some papers and found money in an envelope which he dealt with. Next she wanted to pay by card for the rest but seemed unable to scan it. The boy did it for her after 3 tries. Then she had to rearrange the things in her handbag and finally put her shopping back in the trolley.
Why can't people be ready to pack as you go and have your card ready?Rant over.

The awful self service checkouts are available for those of us buying a few things and those of us in a hurry.

I hope I’ll always be patient with other customers at the checkouts. We never know what others are coping with. Patience and a friendly smile cost nothing and do no harm. They might even make someone feel better
Our supermarket has many staff who’ve been there years. They’re kind, thoughtful and friendly

I am always very patient for these things.

That may be the only human conversation she has all day.

Besides, where am I in a rush too anyway? If I was I would use self checkout

I’m quite surprised this forum is so intolerant we are all going to become older and slower, dementure or not, this intolerance is blatant discrimination and you should be ashamed of yourselves.
If you are in a tearing hurry use a self scan, I get a lot of customers that are not quick and like to have a short chat, it really is the only person they have spoken to that day, maybe for days.
