Firstly, I am sick of our “lovely guests” at our holiday let who steal; Bluetooth speaker, coffee table books, wheat packs, hand soap dispensers, wooden coat hangers and dishwasher/laundry tablets.

Secondly, restaurants that serve food in a tower! You can’t see what you’ve got,the food goes cold quickly as it’s not touching the warm plate and it’s not 1986 anymore.
The same restaurants usually can’t manage to get the condiments on the table until 10 minutes after the food arrives!
You don’t ask if the customer wants mustard when the food is in front of them, you make sure everything is there so the customer can eat straight away.

Finally, reviews, I am being asked to review EVERYTHING, the item, the delivery of the item and the post purchase customer service, from paper napkins to loo roll, please just stop.

I could go on, but please feel free to rant with me this grey Tuesday.

AIBU?

Oh a PS, people who read threads like this and come out with “ but there’s people starving etc etc.
It’s light hearted!

I can't believe your guests steal things from your let. It is no wonder that I got such a lovely email from the owner of the Airbnb which we rented recently thanking me profusely for stripping the beds, emptying the dishwasher, clearing the rubbish and leaving the place immaculate. I thought everybody did that.

I, very unreasonably, hate it when our neighbour's son parks right outside our front door. They are a lovely family of 7 and realise I don't own the street. Fortunately it doesn't happen very often.

1.Awful

2. Dont think ever happened to me

3. Gave up on them as soon as they started

Agree with annsixty about "tipping".

People who reinvent themselves to new neighbours or newcomers to a friendship group.
It is quite “ gobsmacking” sometimes to hear them talking about their past or experiences when you know the truth.
I just inwardly smile and would never say a word.

We recently ate at a local restaurant and the food was barely warm. The excuse was people complain if its too hot really what a load of bull! Being served dirty glasses is disgusting I can’t stand that no matter where we go. Staff who have no interest in serving they should be grateful they are employed.

Pedestrians letting dogs walk off the lead on a main road are not deserving a pet. People pushing prams and with toddlers talking on their phones not taking notice of traffic.

Motorists get done for driving without due care and attention for minor incidents. The same should apply to cyclists who think they have the right of way and just plough past without a care in the world.

I will stop there I could go on and on but got to get out for some necessary shopping.

That horrible little game advert with a king moving red and blue squares around that comes up all the time online. Temu and Wish that send texts and adverts constantly even after being blocked. Most of our politicians, sick of hearing their lies.

Marmin

I have just opened an email from the moderators asking me to review this thread.

I resent people who collect money in public "for a charity" when in fact only a tiny amount goes to the worthy cause and they pocket the rest. Two dodgy geezers dressed as superheroes used to frequent a local shopping mall. I moaned to a security guard but he said it was above board as they were "running a business".

Give me the collections run by unpaid volunteers.

luluaugust Tue 23-Jan-24 10:29:30

Wow no wonder a cottage we use regularly only put out a few dishwasher tablets, it must be disheartening for you.
I do wish drivers would start using the indicators again, often I am the only one using them in a long queue, I am not a natural mind reader.
I never give reviews, I find it easier that way.

Deliveries which state the parcel was 'handed to the resident' when it blatantly was not!!!! ( being left by the front door for all to see...)

Being asked 'how as your delivery?' with only a 'thumbs up/down' emoji to click on...the item arrived in tact so that would be a thumbs up...it was not handed to me although I was at home, the doorbell was not used-so that would be a thumb down! Dont usually bother to reply tbh.

Greenfinch Tue 23-Jan-24 10:36:04

The use of words such as incredible , amazing and unbelievable for really quite ordinary events and when we are told that everybody loves…or everybody wants….etc when clearly I don’t.

Aveline Tue 23-Jan-24 10:41:38

Cyclists on pavements!

Spuddy Tue 23-Jan-24 11:00:07

I fully agree with you 100%!

I'm happy to give a good review if the item is worth one such as a lovely scarf, books, tasty box of cat food, kettle cradle etc. but when they want me to review a tin of soup, a normal regular bar of soap, or the colour of the socks of the delivery person who bought it then they can get lost!

I used to work in restaurants and cafe's and always made sure condiments etc. were on the table first, or at least, as the customers were sitting down, then tell them if there's any others they need, to just call me over and I'll get it for them.

As a customer of restaurants, I hate it when I get a dirty knife or fork.... think Morrisons Cafe ... who do that regularly and it's one of the reasons I no longer use their Cafe's! ...

Glorianny Tue 23-Jan-24 11:00:36

Those bits of plastic or foil which are inside the lid when you open something and which are stuck down so firmly you can't pull them up so you have to resort to stabbing them with a knife to get at the contents.
Oh
And corned beef tins! I bought one for the first time for years and couldn't get into it. No key like they used to have. My tin opener couldn't cope. I finished up with a screwdriver, a fork and various other items and had to scrape it out through a small hole!!

Spuddy Tue 23-Jan-24 11:10:35

Sorry to hear about the rotter's stealing your things, if they're that desperate they should get a job to buy their own!

We're clean and tidy anyway but when hubby and I have been in hotels, B&B's and self-catering we ALWAYS clean the trays the kettle etc. is on, empty the kettle, close windows, empty bins and leave the tied-up bag by the bin and put a new bag in, general clean of the bathroom and entire place, when we eat we put a tea towel or napkins under it to try to stop food dropping on the floor or furniture, on the rare occasion we accidentally spill liquids we immediately contact the staff, apologize and offer to pay for the cleaning, we strip the bed and leave a box of chocs for the staff, we could never leave the place in a tip or nick anything!

A good rant does you a power of good
You sound unfortunate with you visitors what part of the country do you live possibly do you live on site?
We have three holiday lets and loose very little we do live on site north Wales
The odd broken glass, expected, for which folks frequently leave some money
Face cloths but apparently we are not the only ones
More to the point it’s what is left behind, More than once we have had items that require batteries which is all very amusing until one of your cleaner grand kids wants to know what it is
My grumble husband who won’t put stuff away

Gwyllt Tue 23-Jan-24 11:18:53

Cyclists that cut in close while I’m walking the dog and ring their bell
Joggers that don’t acknowledge that you have made your dog wait while they pass

SusieB50 Tue 23-Jan-24 11:20:27

I have just been asked to “review”’ the pack of fuses I ordered 🤷‍♀️.
Other bugbears : Mobility scooters being driven by formula one racing drivers o pavements
Dogs on extendable leads that trail across pavements, I am very cautious when out as I have had a couple of spectacular falls which have made me much more aware of hazards.
Cold coffee in artisan coffee shops, I’m told that coffee shouldn’t be hot but I don’t like it lukewarm and now have to ask to have it extra hot !

Spuddy Tue 23-Jan-24 11:27:06

I absolutely HATE WITH A VENGENCE those moronic adverts that come up on my laptop saying ''You're peeing WRONG'' ''You're eating a doughnut WRONG'' You're cleaning your teeth WRONG'' etc.

As a dog friend I hate to see owners in public with no harness/lead and letting them run through the streets and over the road, they really don't deserve pets, the poor dog could be run or over or attacked by another animal or person.

In various restaurants, shops etc. when staff say ''hi guy''. For starters, it's ''hello'', we're in the UK not USA, and secondly, I'm female so ''guy'' isn't my name or gender!

Hubby and I own a small business so it really p****s me off when some obnoxious twit comes in saying ''you should have your desk over there, that shelving unit should be here'' etc. etc. SOD OFF! It's OUR business and stock we'll have it how is best for US! We had one in recently who owns her own business but tried to tell me where to have my desk and stock! If only I had a machine gun!

Spuddy Tue 23-Jan-24 11:30:26

Glorianny, I know EXACTLY what you're saying! How they expect people to get into those weird shaped tins with no key is beyond me!

I can't use manual tin openers of any sort so have to use electric ones but mine can't really open it because of the tin shape! I just buy packs of corned beef instead!

Dee1012 Tue 23-Jan-24 11:32:54

Ooh...I do enjoy a good rant!
What infuriates me today....
1, The bin men who seem to have developed a game of how far can we leave the bin away from the house!
2. People who stand really close behind you in queues.
3. Those who shout into mobile phones or have a conversation really loudly in public places.
4. Bad parking and mobility scooters on pavements when no thought is given to people walking on the pavement.
5. Groups of people in shops / pavements who want to have their conversations and expect everyone to dodge around them.
6. Lukewarm food / drinks in cafes.

Bella23 Tue 23-Jan-24 11:36:47

I agree with you Sago.
Over-packaging is one of my rants in dirty well-used plastic bags. Use paper then we can recycle.
I feel sorry for the van drivers who must get a lot of abuse, especially weekly grocery orders they are always so pleasant and well-mannered." Your delivery madam with a good sprinkling of double cream on everything including your floor and kitchen table."

Nannan2 Tue 23-Jan-24 11:37:26

Mel1967- thats my sons bugbear as well!😆Normally a very placid young man and very calm & kind- but out on the roads when other drivers dont indicate or at the very very last second make him very annoyed indeed. 😡

Treelover Tue 23-Jan-24 11:47:09

We don’t live on site, our let is in North Yorkshire.
I leave little extras like room sprays, wheat packs, nice anti bac surface cleaner etc etc.
For some reason people decide to take them!
I hate a mish mash of cheap coat hangers so provide lovely wooden ones, each one has a ripon with the name of our let tied on but it doesn’t deter them, one guest took 6!
I’m there now deep cleaning and have thought about putting a note in the file asking people not to take things but if I was a guest I would hate that!
