Just listening to our Prime Minister addressing the nation.
It is truly appalling that he is being heckled.
Where on earth are the Police?
Says it all about our Country right now.

I have just listened to the speech. he seems to be saying that democracy is under threat because the wrong person has been democratically elected.

It does sound ironic.

However, I think if an extreme right populist had been voted in as MP, many would be saying the same thing.

Please don't call him Rishi- he isn't your mate.

I listened to the PM speak, he told us what he thinks is wrong...so PM what's the plan to solve it ?

Looking back in say 20 years time I think that posterity will grasp the awfulness of the Galloway result for both Sunak and Starmer, and esp for Sunak with Farage and his own far right members in the opposite corner.
This speech will be seen as a rabbit-in-the-headlights, which it was.
I also think that in 20 years time it will be apparent that the mess the tories are in now is not Sunak's fault in any but trivial ways, and that the best his party can do is keep quiet, keep together and keep their heads down.

That Sunak is Prime Minister is the result, not the cause of the dreadful state the Conservative party is now in.

Completely agree !

No truer word!

I was going to say something similar. I'm not a Tory voter but I do care about the party in power - it matters what they do whether you vote for it or not.

Just wondering what they are going to do before the election - in desperation to win back the voters they've lost. Hunt cannot now give the bribes tax-cuts, so what now? I read somewhere that Sunak was still "talking" to Boris Johnson...

I don't think Sunak's a 'bad boy' - he's just ineffective. As do some of his MPs who will no doubt also be wondering about their job security.

None of any of this spells good news for the country.

What a disappointment, all it was was something that could jsut as easily have been announced in Parliament. or published as a press release.

Oddly enough Sunak has been probably the most effective PM since Blair/Brown, he had to clear up the mess created by Cameron, Brexit, May, Johnson, Covid, Ukraine and Truss. He took on the poisoned chalice and steadied the economy, I don’t think Starmer would have done any better, nor will he if he wins the GE.
Most of us hate the way the successive Tory governments have misdirected policy, I’m not expecting a Labour government to change much but at least we will be rid of the rotten lot we have now and will feel much better.

MayBee70 Fri 08-Mar-24 13:44:06

But he was in charge of the economy for a lot of that time so is rectifying some of his own mistakes. As for bringing down inflation. Well, it could hardly have gone much higher, could it?

MayBee70 Fri 08-Mar-24 14:31:46

They said onTRIP’s that they think the reason for the speech was that they wanted to gauge the social media response to what he said so they could frame their election campaign around it.

What we want is a General Election.

I’d say want and need!
Todays ‘ address to the nation’ was just electioneering. Imo

Completely agree

Is electioneering not allowed now. Wait until Labour and the ghastly Galloway start.

Freya,

Electioneering is what politicians do before an election. If it’s not allowed, it’s going to be a much quieter, cheaper to organise general election this time.

I think there are rules concerning electioneering. For one thing aren’t parties only allowed to spend a certain amount? Seems wrong for a party to do things that can work round those rules.

Casdon Fri 08-Mar-24 18:28:01

Rules Schmules MayBee70. Why change the habits of his predecessors?

Mollygo Fri 08-Mar-24 19:03:39

MayBee70 I used to believe that too.

Galaxy Fri 08-Mar-24 19:26:21

Dear God if they are basing their campaign on social media reaction, they are crazy.

It’s all down to algorithms these days I think….( no idea what that means, though)

What is your link for, moodsantrey? It’s taking me to what looks like a French version of WhatsApp plus.
