To think GN is much more pleasant than MN?

This is not intended to be some sort of froth/unpleasant thread.

It's just that genuinely to scroll MN you need a bulletproof vest - here is a bit different.

To be true, I have no idea what I am even doing on GN.

I'm not even 30!

Hopefully no one will come after me with pitchforks grin

Agree Gransnet is a kinder, more supportive place if you need helpful input and generally more varied content.

I don't check out MN very much as I find it quite aggressive a lot of the time, but I agree that there are some funny threads. I don't like the consistent swearing much either. I'm not averse to the odd swear word, I've heard enough in my working life, but it makes the responses incredibly boring to read apart from anything else.

I also agree withargymargy

Gransnet, Mumsnet......it can only be a matter of time until we get Teensnet (or have we got that already?)

Teensnet sounds decent...

When will we have Dadsnet?

Or Auntsnet?

argymargy. I agree.

Gransnet may seem mild and cuddly but there is a darker side! It's generally more right wing, anti-feminist and sadly I have seen racist and xenophobic views expressed quite happily.

I have just found the Jimberly posts by clicking on our bladder ad and doing a search. It is hilarious.

I like the Archers thread but they are very nasty to anyone who is over 50 lives in a house on their own that have worked hard for over the years and think they should give them up to a younger family.
They swear a lot, think if your politcal views are different to thiers your "Bat Shit crazy", they like using that saying too and some think that Grandparents should provide free Children care and get really annoyed if its not offered.

Casdon - the Jimberly thread
I tried to be quiet but just woke my husband up snorting!
😂
Thank you!!

I find the vulgar language difficult to deal with. It isn't necessary and is a sad reflection on standards.

Joseann Fri 31-May-24 05:53:47

Informative too. That's why I dip into it while spending a couple of months away across the channel!

Joseann Fri 31-May-24 05:52:03

No idea, I don't use MN. But on the whole, GN is supportive, kind, and lighthearted where appropriate.

Sallywally1 Fri 31-May-24 05:48:41

I look at both and find gransnet much kinder in the replies. I feel sorry for some posters on mumsnet where there is often blame towards posters. One said she was in tears after one responder to a perfectly innocent thread. I did feel bad for her.

I also enjoy mumsnet, some is of no interest, some is very entertaining there are some very witty posters, support for other women who are 'struggling' is wonderful.

Iam64 Thu 30-May-24 19:55:43

I enjoy mumsnet - the direct answers and speed posts crack on are entertaining.
Their Archers thread always ace

I love mumsnet as much as gransnet, mumsnet can be very explicit!

I’m not on Mumsnet but read it sometimes, and although there are some very aggressive posters who make Gransnetters look like a basket of kittens, Mumsnet can be hilarious. Have you read Jimberly, I was crying with laughter at that thread?

The Jimberly thread was hilarious 😂 I’m grinning now thinking about it.

I have never been on MN but we do get some nasty ones from MN on here but they don't stay long.

It isn't just woman who use GN men are here to. Not everyone is a grandparent but there are a wide range of threads to appeal to all ages.

I did look but the language was appalling, sure these mums must consider it acceptable.
I switched off Responder as every other word was found swearing, I know it’s got to have some swearing but not continuous, it shows a very limited vocabulary.

They just use swear words as filler words!

What is responder? I hope you don't mind me asking, never heard of it!

I thought I was quite worldly but Mumsnet can still shock me.
A recent thread is a poor girl who doesn’t know who the father of her child is, it was quite graphic, you have to admire their honesty though.

Dear Lord -- I had no idea that was possible.

Must ask our daughters' (ages 60s to 40s) opinions.

I didnt know that was possible these days either!

Surely they know of condoms and the implications of not wearing one!

That’s why I don’t go there -what I have heard is enough to put me off. I am obviously not a MN person.

Germanshepherdsmum

I don’t go on MN - what I read here about the language posters there use is enough to put me off, quite apart from the fact that I am in my 70s, not my 20s/30s/40s. I wouldn’t want to read the sort of post Sago has just described - and no, I’m not a prude.

If you think that post is unpleasant, you may just faint if you go on the 'sex' boards!
