Ten German Bombers

(109 Posts)

I feel ashamed to be English after reading about our loutish football fans singing this odious song with their stupid models of bombers, in the beautiful country that is hosting Euro 2024.
The German response has been measured and gracious but I think the fans should be arrested for hate crime and banned from attending future matches.
Or is it ok because it’s Germany and it must forever pay and be ridiculed for Hitler’s crimes? I hope they win the tournament and so far their playing has been glorious.

Cross posted Jaxjacky I see you've made the same point grin

Callistemon213 Sun 23-Jun-24 12:36:05

DS has taken DGD on occasion. She plays too 😯

Rosie51 Sun 23-Jun-24 12:35:03

I love football and happily watch as many matches as possible. I am not unpleasant nor uncivilised, and likewise my husband and sons.
Prince William likes football, does he come under your blanket snobbery Grandma70s? Oh dear, he's encouraged Prince George to attend too!

Callistemon213 Sun 23-Jun-24 12:33:21

😁

Jaxjacky Sun 23-Jun-24 12:32:27

I was a season ticket holder some years ago, before I got my allotment.
The Prince of Wales and I can be unpleasant and uncivilised together along with a myriad of others across a large section of society.

Callistemon213 Sun 23-Jun-24 12:27:58

It's stereotyping.

DS is a family man in a professional job and he and and his friends would never resort to the kind of hooliganism which some fans all over the world do, nor do the majority of fans.

rafichagran Sun 23-Jun-24 12:19:32

I find Grandma 70s post unpleasant, I have been to football matches both home and away, I sat in the terraces not some private box. I love the chanting and the atmosphere, plus I bought the unhealthily burger I could find and enjoyed it.

I find there is a snobbery around football as it is deemed a more working class sport. Would you encourage your sons not to do rugby?

Marydoll Sun 23-Jun-24 10:41:10

I agree with you Oreo. A bit of a sweeping statement, Grandma70s.

My DH, DS! and SIL are very much football fans and certainly not loutish. I take myself off to the conservatory, when there is football on.

Oreo Sun 23-Jun-24 10:29:15

Grandma70s

I find it an unpleasant and uncivilsed culture, which is why I always discouraged my sons from taking an interest. Luckily they never really did. My husband also loathed the football culture, so we were pretty much a football free house.

Is that in Scotland?
My Dad used to love the Spurs, especially as we lived round the corner from White Hart Lane, and my DP is glued to any footie matches and used to play for a London Sunday team.
Both lovely men btw
An interest in football or playing the game is fine and healthy.
Only gets out of hand with some fans, especially on away matches and drinking.

Iam64 Sun 23-Jun-24 10:26:27

Hmmm, slagging matches?

Well the posts I reported have been deleted. I suggest that taking a careful look at what you are criticising is important. It's fine to disagree and oppose someone's views. It is not OK to make personal remarks about them, much as they may irritate you.
I would never have dreamed of reporting anything on this thread until paddyanne54's post was reported and deleted. In my opinion if some people want to engage in slanging matches they are quite entitled to do so. What isn't OK is choosing to report one post because you don't like what it says or the poster saying it and ignoring others because you agree with them. I find that unacceptable.

I reported paddyanne54’s post due to its content.

I do not engage in slanging matches

There weren’t any slanging matches on this thread so no need for all this outrage.
I would just like to say that all Scottish and English football fans are wunderbar! 😄

Marydoll

Paddyann is not representative of all Scots on GN. and their opinion of England.
Please bear that in mind. 😡

We know, Marydoll 🙂

Nor do her views represent those of any of the Scots people I know, although they are all living south of the border so perhaps their views don't count!

Report away all you like Glorianny

It doesn't make paddyann's perpetual attacks on England and everything to do with our country and the glorification of everything Scottish any less outrageous.

Actually, they are often so outrageous they cause hilarity.

Oreo Sun 23-Jun-24 08:22:52

Think that your comments are misplaced and misguided sympathy Glorianny
I would ask Paddyann54 to stop and think a bit before posting
1) Everything about Scotland is far superior to any other country
2)Everything about England and Westminster is terrible.
It’s bound to put other posters backs up and in my view is goady.
If anyone constantly said that England was wonderful in every way and Scotland the complete opposite it would soon be stamped on, quite rightly.

Glorianny Sat 22-Jun-24 21:01:31

I've reported the personal attacks on paddyanne54.
Never do things like this normally but honestly trying to silence a reply to the dreadful criticism posted is neither just nor fair.

By all means criticise, But play the ball not the man. And don't pick and choose about what is and isn't offensive.

I reported paddyanne54’s post of 11.05.00.

I didn’t report but I did comment on the offensive nature of the post. I welcome the immediate deletion by gransnet, which confirms gg13 and many others were correct, the post breached guidelines

Scottish fans burn the England flag after a day of drinking at Euro 2024 in Germany as the Tartan Army descend on rain-hit Cologne ahead of their match against Switzerland

Hmm 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😇? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😇 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿😇?.

It's not only the everything Scottish is wonderful hyperbole, if the post had been made by another, I doubt whether it would have garnered a response. There is a context around PA's posts which often are side swipes aimed at those of us south of the border. If an English GN member were to post for example, regarding a criminal trial or event happening in Scotland "look what's happening in Glasgow" the inference being "the people of Glasgow are a horrible lot" when we all know nasty things happen everywhere. I've seen such a post couched in those terms about an incident in London or the supposition of, "I hear the English don't speak to the neighbours" and God help the English people who have settled in Scotland allegedly they cause all sorts of problems. There is a narrative and history around PA's post they're pretty predictable and relentless in their anti English rhetoric and yes rude too! No doubt she'll pop up posting along the lines of her cousin's mother's sister's boyfriend is English and he's ever so luverly and she doesn't hate us, it's an illusion, even if we did execute Mary Queen of Scots.

Follow a Celtic v Rangers match, those fans aren’t gentleman
