Ten German Bombers

I feel ashamed to be English after reading about our loutish football fans singing this odious song with their stupid models of bombers, in the beautiful country that is hosting Euro 2024.
The German response has been measured and gracious but I think the fans should be arrested for hate crime and banned from attending future matches.
Or is it ok because it’s Germany and it must forever pay and be ridiculed for Hitler’s crimes? I hope they win the tournament and so far their playing has been glorious.

Perhaps this is the best sort of chant.
Scottish fans do The Slosh

I think you can't do away with insults in football chants altogether. Also although I'm not a liverpool supporter, the crowd at Anfield singing "you'll never walk alone" is incredibly moving to me, can almost bring tears to my eyes. But chants like "10 German bombers" & "Lizzie's in a box" are totally off subject & offensive & although I wouldn't advocate anyone being criminalised for them, I think fans singing these should be warned they're out of order. The most glorious spectator sport in the world IMO, it's never over till it's over & the underdogs can & do win against the odds time & again.

Callistemon21 I love snooker😍but darts, you have a point there.

Oreo Mon 24-Jun-24 18:54:55

Yes Glorianny the tartan tam o shanters with fake ginger hair poking out of them are charming. Also the Mel Gibson blue facepaint.

Glorianny Mon 24-Jun-24 15:44:06

Must admit that looking at the footage the Tartan army arriving with pipes and drums have the edge on any group of fans and any chants. They must be the most photographed and filmed as well.

Grandma70s - one of my daughters petitioned to have a girls football team at primary school. She was 8. She also led a campaign to have the top playground used for footie two days a week, the rest of the time for skipping and other sports not dominated by boys
We took them to see MUFC and were in the.happy crowds in the city when Utd won the treble. Happy happy days

Delila Mon 24-Jun-24 15:00:46

Yes, I agree Callistemon, snooker and darts - ugh! All the same, I suppose there’s skill involved….but no vitality! 🎯🎱

I find it an unpleasant and uncivilsed culture, which is why I always discouraged my sons from taking an interest. Luckily they never really did. My husband also loathed the football culture, so we were pretty much a football free house.

Each to their own.
I fully encouraged my sons (x2) interest in football, I spent many a happy hour on the touchlines when they were younger, great to be able to support them and their teammates. We all watch football from the comfort of our sofas these days!

Rugby is more dangerous for its players but just as entertaining to watch, from a spectator view, as football.
The only boring sports to watch, to me, are golf and cricket and unfortunately my DP is addicted to watching them as well as all other sports I don’t mind watching.😖

Snooker and darts .....
If you can call them sport. Like watching paint dry.

Are you actually interested in the thread subject Glorianny which is football and behaviour of fans?
Why don’t you comment on that?Do you think along with the OP that English fans should be arrested for hate crimes?

I suggest you read my first post on this thread. I have no problem with chants. I have no problem with bawdy songs. I have no problem with people being rude to each other. I just like to see a little equality in all of this.

I find Grandma 70s post unpleasant, I have been to football matches both home and away, I sat in the terraces not some private box. I love the chanting and the atmosphere, plus I bought the unhealthily burger I could find and enjoyed it.

I find there is a snobbery around football as it is deemed a more working class sport. Would you encourage your sons not to do rugby?

Indeed I would. Rugby’s even worse, though for different reasons.

Oreo Mon 24-Jun-24 11:25:09

Haha Callistemon the manager is casting around for blame, when the Scottish fans are blaming him🤭

Why are you continuing with all this Glorianny let it drop, haven’t you noticed the thread has moved on. It will be goady to keep on about it.

Scotland out of the Euros now so football fan news will feature the countries still in the contest.

They were robbed!

Thank goodness it wasn't an English referee! 😯

The Scotland manager said that only European referees should be allowed to referee at the Euros, saying of the Argentinian referee, one of the best in the world ^'he probably doesn't speak the language'.
Scottish English or Hungarian? 🤔

Oh wow the Thread police strike again. I was replying to a post. Sorry I didn't realise there was a time limit on such things. It is "goady" to tell people what they can and can't say on a thread.

Football is such an enjoyable game at (almost) every level, and at its best it is “the beautiful game”. It’s not surprising supporters are so passionate about it.

Very true 😃⚽️

Well the posts I reported have been deleted. I suggest that taking a careful look at what you are criticising is important. It's fine to disagree and oppose someone's views. It is not OK to make personal remarks about them, much as they may irritate you.
I would never have dreamed of reporting anything on this thread until paddyanne54's post was reported and deleted. In my opinion if some people want to engage in slanging matches they are quite entitled to do so. What isn't OK is choosing to report one post because you don't like what it says or the poster saying it and ignoring others because you agree with them. I find that unacceptable.

I reported paddyanne54’s post due to its content.

I do not engage in ^slanging matches^

I don't think you were involved in the slanging match. You did however choose to report one of the posts involved in it, conveniently ignoring the others, because they didn't fit your views.
I actually think that's worse.
If people want to spend their time insulting each other why not stay out of it and let them?
If you find posts that personalise things wrong why not report all such posts?
