I have just seen on a news reel showing a tourist got bitten by a horse. There is a sign clearly stating that horses may bite or kick yet a tourist rushed over to stand by the horse which then nipped her arm. Tourist then seemed to faint and needed to be checked out by the police on duty.
When will people learn? On the video you can see she rushed up to the horse .
Even if not able to understand the sign common sense should tell you not to get too close to any animal.

It's the same as dogs.. common sense dictates that if you want to stroke an animal you ask permission from their handler.. and anyone familiar with horses would know that you don't rush up to them.. I'm not surprised it nipped her..

Maizie where you grew up is irrelevant. I come from an army family and grew up in army quarters all over the world. So what?

I haven't kept up, has her arm dropped off yet?

It's arrogance you know. "I came to London to make lot of selfies and other context and so I do what I bloody want to do. As a mather of fact, "they" should be happy to have me here." Doesn't anybody know anything about horses these days? Animals in general? My grandpa tought me to leave horses alone unless you knew them really well and/or had permision to come closer!

She ignored the sign, no sympathy. These guards real life solders and horses are working not objects of voyeurism and photography for stupid tourists.

Agreed 100%. Perhaps there should be a large group of local volunteers who couldstand there and keep people away from the horses and repeat the warnings clearly given on a sign behind.

The signs have been changed from Don't touch the reins to Don't touch the horses.

About time too. It’s not a petting zoo.

Here you go!

I would still like to see them in graphical form. Tourists won’t all understand English.

I know diddly squat about horses. Went on a trail ride decades ago, that’s literally the most experience I’ve had. And I’m Canadian, so would also be a tourist in this situation.

But I’m not an idiot. Horses are freaking massive, and these ones are military trained. You couldn’t pay me to get within reach of one, no matter how breathtakingly gorgeous I think they are (and I do).

Whatever happened to common sense? “Massive animal, currently on guard duty, and I’m a stranger.” seems to me that should be more than enough information to tell people to stay the heck at a distance.

Good point!

These might help daft tourists to stay clear:

I agree with the graphic idea, understood by all.

Good! I hate when folk automatically touch my dog and even persist when I ask them not to. “But dogs like me!” Well one of mine doesnt!

Marydoll Sun 04-Aug-24 19:37:20

Unfortunately, the signs haven't worked!

My sisters dog loathes and fears people, for good reason. She’s 8 now and this won’t change. The number of ‘oh all dogs love me’ comments is astounding

It's tradition . If people behave which they usually do, I'd hate to see it stopped.

Lovely clip of a lady beaming broadly as she stood by horse and guardsman She then proudly held up her banner which said, I'm his mum.

Guardsman did actually do a tiny smile!

I think he asks "what are you doing here?"
