Does this really sell newspapers?

AIBU to wonder what sub editors (or whoever) think is a suitable front page to catch the eye and induce someone to buy a newspaper?
It used to be a NEWS picture or a tried and tested Royal or a “National treasure” but at the risk of sounding like “disgusted of Tunbridge Wells” I was underwhelmed by the front cover of todays Telegraph
Actually on looking further, the other two don’t impress much either!

Well, in a nutshell men get to wear what they want and women get to wear what men want as well.

Spot on.

I just wish the women who dress like this while spouting all the fashionable mantras about the freedom to dress as they wish, and not be seen only as sex objects, could see that

Sexual equality???

Maybe that’s the problem, if men see women as equal that’s why many men treat them so badly
There seem to be a great many men who have no respect at all for women.

Whoever this woman is she does herself, and others no favours,. If you've got it flaunt it, seems to be the norm nowadays. Pretty woman, surely doesn't need to flaunt it. The dress, nightie, is hideous.

Women dress to impress other women,
They undress to impress men

It attracts the wrong kind of men, I’ve no idea if Daisy has any intelligence but if she dresses like a bimbo it’s doubtful.

Why is it, in these days of sexual equality do women celebrities feel they need to dispense with clothes to catch attention when the male equivalent don'?

Why are male celebrities not turning up for premiers in mankinis, or fishnet budgie smugglers, of eye-wincingly revealing tight trousers?

Maybe because the same men who encourage women to wear as little as possible would actively discourage men from showing off their meat and two veg in case it made the observers feel inadequate.

I thought that it was just me who thought that the DT was trying to catch down to The Sun. Some of the huge front page photographs recently have, frankly, been verging on the offensive.

Because women would laugh at them!

I think it is a mark of present-day female desperation to appear sexy. If done to attract the male, just think what type of man you are attracting?

I think in Daisy's case it's done to attract media attention - it worked.

David49 Mon 09-Sept-24 17:35:00

Yes it does sell newspapers, if Daisy wanted to be front page she succeeded, not especially attractive, just eye catching.

Babs03 Mon 09-Sept-24 17:28:24

Of course the poor young women wearing next to nothing are usually at the whim of those at the top of the entertainment business, all men I would think. And of course those at the very top in the fashion world who are absolutely swayed by what men like to see whether male or female.
Certainly you never see a young male actor appearing on the red carpet wearing next to nothing. Nor do male singers writhe around on stage wearing their underwear.
And tbh I think that infamous young woman married or living with some famous rap artist whose name escapes me, frequently seen in public places wearing a see through plastic bag etc., is very sad indeed.

Boz Mon 09-Sept-24 15:54:09

Don't blame the poor girl, Do you think she had any say in how she looked?
She will have been dressed by stylists and publicists in order to make the front pages; job done.

Like a lot of printed media, the Daily Telegraph is getting increasingly desperate in its attempts to encourage people to buy the newspaper. It used to be a serious publication, even if I did not often agree with the political stance, but no longer.

\I am more concerned by the nasty comments by some on here; why do women always do other women down? I don't mean the joking comments about vests and slips.

I don't know if Ilovedogs22 and others are women or men. I know that not all GNs are women and that in the normal run of things men are just as welcome on GN.

Having seen her on film and TV I know she is pretty with an expressive face and a good actress, but I do not feel this outfit is at all flattering, or appropriate. The beach, maybe?

No it's a Premiere of something.
It says so below.

TheWeirdo Mon 09-Sept-24 14:22:55

I've never heard of her but if I was to ''wear'' that outfit in public I'd be done for indecent exposure so how come ''celebrities'' can get away with it?!

Must be a slow news day.

Had to read it to see who she was, oh yes, ‘Normal People’, she was very good in it.

The outfit was obviously chosen to make an impact, no bra, looks like some chiffon over a swimsuit.

The Times:

"Send in The Clowns to help children heal quckly"
Personally, that would have sent me into hysterics and hiding under the bedclothes.

Perhaps Daisy was en route to the beach? Lovely colour!

Daily Telegraphs long slow-burning response to The Sun's page 3 girls. At this rate in about 10 years time it will mortally offend Liverpool and no longer be able to sell copies there

Wasted on me.
I had to go back and look at the pics after I’d read the comments. I didn’t notice them first time round. Too busy reading the headlines.

Indigo8 Mon 09-Sept-24 13:01:27

I nearly clutched my pearls!!!!
Why isn't she wearing a petticoat or at least a waist slip? You can see her legs and her knickers!!!!

Joking apart the DT used to be a serious newspaper so did The Times and the Grauniad.

Bit unnecessary and mean Ilovedogs22 if I may say so.

Tuaim Mon 09-Sept-24 12:54:54

It'll be giving the old colonels a heart attack!

Babs03 Mon 09-Sept-24 12:47:07

Correction - overall men do not face this at all.

I think that women in the entertainment industry are encouraged by management/agents and by societal attitudes to wear as little as possible. Is still a patriarchal world we live in and men’s likes/dislikes dictate a lot of what we see on the telly, at the cinema, on stage and in music venues.
Of course women should feel free to wear what they choose but how much do others influence their choices.
Overall men do face this at all.
