Hairdressers

Difficult at the time but I would have been very annoyed. I hope you didn't leave her a tip and that you have resolved never to go there again.

How unprofessional. I would have been extremely annoyed. Very occasionally my hairdresser has one of his 6 children come in to see him but he soon sends them packing.

Whether you go back or not depends on how well she did your hair.

I was a new customer and this happened to me. I didn’t leave a tip and told the receptionist that I would not use their shop again.

I can be a bit outspoken and certainly in these circumstances. I would be polite - or jokey - saying something along the lines of 'don't forget me here'! But I don't think I'd go to this hairdressers again though - you've paid for this service after all

It's really rude. She should see her friend in her break or when she is in between customers, or her day off!

I think I may have made a complaint politely. The hairdresser was not giving you her full attention which is what you pay for. It was very rude of both of them.

I like my hairdresser and she does my hair just how I want it. I didn’t want to make a scene at the time. I will go again. But I think her friend was very rude encroaching on my time , and should use her appointments for a chat.
It’s not cheap but it’s such a good cut and blow , I think I will send her. Message saying how I felt ,

Dragonfly: it would only be cutting my nose off if I regretted it afterwards or if I was somehow worse off for doing it.

It’s very rude, unprofessional and I’d have felt miffed in your place Lilypops. Having said that, I don’t like confrontation so would not have said anything and would still go back if the hairdresser is good at her job.

I changed hairdressers because of a similar situation. I was left sitting in the chair for ages whilst the hairdresser broke off to chat.Then when he came back to finish my hair kept talking over the top of my head. I had been going for years and his prices had got higher and higher and I'd had enough.I don't want fawning over but it's meant to be a pleasant, relaxing experience and it no longer was.

She apologised saying it was difficult to get rid of her “friend”. She understood my complaint completely agreed with me and offered me a free hairdo next time. Can’t say fairer than that and we are still on good terms and she said she was glad I brought it up ,rather than saying nothing and going somewhere else. So everyone is happy 😃

I would not have left a tip, nor would I return. Dreadfully rude and unprofessional.

But now I see the OP has addressed this matter with her stylist and has got her point across very well. Pleased you had a positive outcome Lilypops and lets hope the hairdresser has a word with her friend so there is no repeat.

I think I would have handled this by asking saying to visitor "oh, I'm sorry I didn't catch your name. Where is it you work? - I'll pop in when I'm in that area and in need of a coffee and a chat. Or would your employer object?" Whether or not she does work I would hope she would get the message.

I would not return. I don't tip my hairdresser apart from at Christmas, sorry it sounds mean but it's expensive enough as it is.

Yes I agree with you OP, I'd be annoyed too, the friend was very rude. Your hairdresser really ought to have a word with her even if it's good that she has been conciliatory to you in offering a free hair appointment. The friend was bang out of order.

So pleased you sorted it out Lilypops good hairdressers are hard to find.

Well done Lilypops, I always think it's best to say something rather than let one's resentment and anger grow & simmer.
Ps I agree finding a good hairdresser is like finding a unicorn these days, I have no idea why though????

Glad it’s sorted, situations like that are so awkward.

However, the onus was on the hairdresser to tactfully let the friend know at the time that she was busy doing her job, and would catch up later.

I think it was very rude and like to think I'd be inclined to say something as I was leaving esp now I'm in My 50s ( I would not have done when I was younger🙂🩷

the last time I was at a hairdresser, and it was my last time ...it just happened to be the school prom night, and lots of young girls in getting their hair done,,,it was the owner who was doing my hair,and she couldn't concentrate on mine for watching the other stylists ,and she would leave me and take her phone from her bag to take pictures of these girls she started and stopped cutting my hair 3 times...I felt as if I was in the way...no tip left, and I never went back,,,,

I think you handled it perfectly, Lilypops. Being assertive is always better than passive aggression, but not always easy at the time.
