I have a car that bleeps at me whether I’m reversing, driving, parking etc.
Two fridges freezers that bleep, a microwave, Thermomix, washing machine, dishwasher, air fryer and hob.
I’m sure there’s more.
It drives me mad.

Loud beeping woke me at three o'clock this morning, was it the diabetic sensor reader under my pillow, the new heart monitor plugged in by side of bed or the house alarm in the hall ? The house alarm won this time.Took me ages to get back to sleep.

So just to add to the bleep thread. When we drive anywhere with our dog we have to make sure all the seatbelts on the back seat are fastened as if the dog shifts his weight over a little bit to a spot where the seat belt is undone, the car has hysterics. This has happened at 70mph on a motorway.

What with my husband's phone, which he always has on loud, the washing machine, and the tumble dryer, it's like madness in this house at times. I recently bought a new cooker with a timer on it, so that adds to the chaos.
What is it with all these reminders? You can hear when a washing machine stops; you know when you put food in how long it takes, etc., so what is wrong with getting up and looking in the oven, etc.?
As for phones, I long for the ring of a proper house phone, but you try and get one. These days it's all odd beeps, but saying that, does anyone remember the Trimphones way back with that high-pitched chirping?

My old Jazz doesn't have excessive beeps. When it tells me I have left the lights on or keys in I always thank it!

The only household item that annoys me is the air fryer which sounds 11 times when it finishes. I like symmetry so a prime number grates on me.

Was it made especially for the band Spinal Tap?
You know the one about the joke where you could turn the sound up to 11 on the band nembers new stereo system.

I think your Air Fryer should be in Show Business and have its own website

If your washing machine is a Samsung then it 'Die Forelle' (The Trout) composed by Shubert.

🤣🤣 My washing machine plays a little tune when it has finished!

Mine does too... it's a happy little tune. I keep meaning to record it and put it on FB.

I am profoundly deaf. It has its advantages.

I am very grateful for all my digital noises which go straight to my digital hearing aids, without that, I would forget half of it

Gogo84 Sun 15-Jun-25 17:39:23

My electric toothbrush beeps at me every 30 seconds. Then an extra long one at 2 minutes

I love my induction hob- except for the way it beeps at me so often. If I accidently lean on it, it beeps, when I wipe it down with a damp cloth it beeps, when I put something on it whilst it is off, it beeps. Keep telling it to shut up , . but it takes absolutely no notice of me. My fridge bleeps at me whilst I am trying to put my shopping away Sadly, the bottom freezer part of it does NOT bleep, wish it would do so when I do not shut the door properly.

My induction hob used to beep at me when anything was over the controls. My cat worked out that when he wanted a drink from the tap he could lay on the hob to summon me! I now turn the hob off at the mains and leave it off until I need to use it.

Take your vehicle to the dealer, they can stop all that bleeping.

I had my burglar alarm removed after mr I died. He’d be the one who set it. He did tell me the code which I wrote down in that black hole that is the safe place. The wretched things go off if we have a storm or the electricity supply disappears.
I have two dogs who bark loudly if anyone dares walk up the drive. One sounds ferocious 🐶🐕.
I’m relieved it’s gone

The most annoying is the loud three-tone ring on my Jazz, which makes me jump and is very distracting. Nothing in the manual about this. Finally noticed that after the ringing a notice on the dashboard said "Driver's Manual has been updated". I presume this must be on-line, as my manual is in the boot! Some of the other notices can be turned off permanently, but others not. Completely illogical, and most frustrating. I don't need to be told that something is overtaking. I can see it in the mirror, and if I can't I shouldn't be driving.

I have my computer and tablet on silent. We never use our house alarm as to be frank who pays any attention? So it was annoying when the house alarm made a noise - it was the battery backup that was warning us we needed to change it.

My daughters washing machine plays Shuberts Trout concerto when it's finished. Charming at first, super irritating when played over and over. My daughters machine is never cold.

The beeps do not bother me, and most in the car can be turned off, but my Yaris has spells where I get a loud boinnngg! sound. The main dealer has no idea.
It does not seem to be related to any of the usual ideas, given that it goes off at the corner of my residential street.

We have a Honda Jazz that is neurotic!

I had a fiat that bleeped at so many things, escalating. Mr I often said oh no, it’s going all Italian again.

Apologies, no offence intended 🚘🚗🚙

Nibbles44 Sun 15-Jun-25 14:19:44

It's the birds imitating car alarms & mobile phones among other things that gets me, It wakes me up & I look out the window at my car but nothings happening.

jocork Sun 15-Jun-25 14:17:28

I like the fact that my car bleeps if I leave the lights on. In my early driving years I was regularly guilty of leaving them on, especially if I srt of in the dark morning and arrived in the light, resulting in regular flat batteries.
I understand that bleeping when you don't have your seatbelt on is a safety feature but when the 'front seat passenger' is a heavy bag of groceries being delivered to a food bank client it is seriously annoying!
My car is over 17 years old so I guess my next one may have all sorts of unnecessary bleeps.

Lollin Sat 14-Jun-25 23:06:49

When I set the timer on my cooker it bleeps helpfully loudly but I hate the sound. Over the years a few times I’ve been held up and thought I’d see if it ever stops but after several minutes I can bear it no longer.

DS has a van on hire to help us with our move. It was driving us mad with its beeps. It beeped if he was only a mile over the speed limit, it beeped if he crossed a white line and, worst of all it beeped if there was any deviation in the steering - like a little wiggle to avoid a pothole, it would play a little tune and the screen would say 'feeling tired? take a rest'. There were a lot of potholes on the route we were driving. The 'are your tired?' routine was driving us nuts. DS was not tired, just trying to avoid ruining the suspension of heavily loaded van on one of the many potholes in the road.
