The stupidity of some people!

My son stood on a weaver fish , many years ago on the south coast. It was an A&E job to remove the spines. It is NOT, just a sting

It was reported earlier today that a teenager had to be rescued after being buried by friends. The police said he was very lucky to survive.

DH always says you should never underestimate the stupidity of some people and the papers provide examples of this everyday. Like those idiots who bought land in a national par and then built a homee without planning permission saying they did not know it was a national park and that they needed planning permission. I didn't believe them, the stupidity was beleiving anyone else would and that everybody would not think how stupid they were.

Yes indeed. A teenage boy has died this week after burying himself in the sand in Italy.

I once spoke to a dad and two boys who were digging a deep pit in the sand. I as afraid of abuse but I knew how easily it could collapse on top of them as the tide came in from under.

He was very appreciative and said he hadn’t realised and that visitors should always listen to locals.

I always insisted on my children wearing sandals or jelly shoes on the beach, too many thoughtless fools leave their rubbish behind and broken glass can't be seen in the sand

It's difficult to know whether or not to offer advice isn't it, sometimes your wisdom/experience is seen as being an interfering busy body. You can't always predict the reaction you'll get if you warn people about hazards but I think I'd sooner risk a tongue lashing than for some little mite to come to harm

Granmardeby we have weavers on the East coast too but they are in the wet sand on the way into the water so children don’t need to wear shoes if they are playing or walking up beach in the dry sandy part, but definitely always wear sea shoes in the water or along the wet sandy part
I ve never met one in all my years of sea swimming but there are odd ones burrowing around, for sure

I expect the mother thought, wrongly, that you were being unnecessarily fussy and interfering.

It is well known that weever fish do sometimes lurk on British beaches. They bury themselves in the sand along the shoreline and the spine sticking up from their backs deal a nasty sting.

Like you, I hope the children were not harmed.

Occasional warnings about weaver fish in Scotland, though l believe they are more prevalent in England.
