Husband doesn’t understand the whole dishcloth/cleaning rag thing!

I have never heard of Lancashire cloths either , they sound great though .

I have a collection of old flannels or tea towels that I use for all manner of cleaning , windows ,polishing etc etc.
old flannels are great for cleaning .

I also have some lovely tea towels , I love a nice tea towel & will buy when on offer usually in Sainsbury’s & habitat . I’m also partial to pretty cloths for the kitchen .
I know , there is no hope for me . But if I have the regular white. Dishcloths then popping them in a bowl of bleach or a Milton tablet overnight is de riguer. Other than that pop in the dishwasher . Always a clean one every day .
However my DH , will use said lovely tea towel to wipe his hands , mop up spills & basically anything. Completely disregarding the dish cloths or paper towels .
But the kitchen dish cloths are usually always completely different & should therefore not be confused with the ones used for bathrooms etc.

Worn out socks are just the thing for cleaning brass, as you can throw them out after using them.

And old socks for putting polish on shoes!

I don't like the open weave dishcloths much.

I have no idea who has ‘ worn out socks’ but I am sure you can apply the same to all the odd socks that I always find at both my DD’s homes

Well I m on the husbands side here

I m obviously a slut as I have no particular named cleaning cloth, it might be a cut up t shirt, it might be an old towel I ve never heard of Lancashire whatever, only hotpots and do you know what… I have no desire to meet these wonder rags or spend a second worrying about them

I ll stay being completely out of touch and a happy old woman using anything that comes to hand

Before we moved down here we went to the Vantona factory shop, now sadly housing, and stocked up on Made in England towels, lovely quality and very cheap as they were slight seconds, tiny plucks for instance. I hope they see me out as one can't get them any longer. I detest seeing the Union Jack on Christy towels, made thousands of miles away.

As long as he’s using them, let him buy them. You use yours, he uses his.

Love a proper dishcloth the old fashioned sort - definitely can’t have too many as they need to be changed every day and when they get a bit ragged I put them in the cleaning cloth bag.

Sorry I just have to ask, A toilet drying cloth.

I've heard it all now.
One of the benefits of how life's come on in my lifetime is the ubiquity of soft toilet paper.
Has a multitude of uses.
Apart from the obvious.
But some people seem to prefer to live in the dark ages.
And glory in it.
I often feel adrift on here.
Totally baffled.

This is a beautiful thread. Hierarchies of cleaning cloths are so right and husbands are so wrong!

I remember those toilet drying cloths from long ago. I didn't know people still used them. It must be nearly sixty years since I last saw one at the home of my in-laws.

I thought it was only my husband that did foot cleaning! I don't know how it happened (it was him) but I washed up some cups and saucers and wondered why I had a lot of foam. For some bizarre reason, which he denied, he had brought through my toilet drying cloth and put it on the kitchen sink. I went mad, he said " it's no big deal for God's sake".

Maggieanne I agree about town/city centres being unrecognisable, ours has almost nothing in it that I want or need because so many shops have closed even the amazing old library is now no more. Instead a horrid little place stuck in the corner of the expensively refurbed Council House. But it does have nice loos!

I am curious to know though Maggieanne what is wrong with young women with pushchairs!🤔

I'm sure husbands have a mental block about cleaning materials. I was in hospital recently and ill for around 3 weeks altogether. Now much better I was going to mop the floors yesterday but DH assured me he had done it regularly while I was ill.
Turns out he meant dropping a single floor wipe on the floor and moving it about a bit with his foot lol. All done now with mop bucket and disinfectant lol

This reminded me of 2 amusing floor-washing tales...

When I was in hospital after having one of the DCs the lady in the opposite bed interrogated her husband about the kitchen floor and it turned out he had washed it... but with fabric conditioner!

A TV series starring the wonderful Thora Hird had a sketch involving her in hospital wanting to know if her DH had washed the kitchen floor. He had mopped it but she then wanted to know which bucket he'd used. When he told her she was horrified... he'd used the 'outside' bucket instead of the 'inside' bucket!
