I was given theatre tickets in the firm of a gift voucher. I only noticed a few says beforehand they could not be used for entry. I phoned the theatre and explained and was tokd to just bring the whole paperwork along eg paper showing email of who had purchased and message forwarding to me. I was admitted no problem.

Theatre tickets grief!

Everything is Apps and technology these days. I think I'm tech savvy but nothing is straightforward. My local hospital has a new parking payment system and as I have a Blue badge I'm grateful it's free, but the registering of my car on their online system was mindboggling. It took me ages.

Your not alone Re hospital parking 😱
We have a joke that they give it a while so you get to know the system then change it again 🤬
Colls
i really don’t like your answer
Not that I’m bothered but feel free to report me.
Similar experience here. We were gifted Peter Kay tickets and thought our tickets were OK. However when we got there my husband couldn't download them. We tried for an hour and had to leave the venue. We didn't have an email because the tickets were a Christmas gift. I was close to tears. We actually bought two more tickets for the next night and at first tried to get a refund from ticketmaster. In the end we gave up.

Have no one nearby that I can ask for help. Most neighbours are elder & disabled like I am. We all struggle even with Assisted collections for bins. Just something that we have to find a way around as we get older. Not complaining about age, as I’ve said many times it certainly beats the alternative!

Surely your daughter knew you had an old phone so wouldn’t be able to access what you needed to enter.
I really don't like this as an answer.
Quite often I get told 'can't your friends / neighbours / family to help you'
I'm not that old! My family live 100s of miles away.
But every company / service has their own website that you have to create an account and navigate.
My council have underground containers to where I have to take certain items. I physically can't so get told 'can't you ask a friend / neighbour ...
No! I have to pay someone.
I don't want to have to continualy ask for help! I save that for emergencies.
Services, accounts save these companies or organisations money and they expect us to meet the shortfall.
If you don't conform to a narrow standard there is no help.
I much prefer real paper type tickets for everything.
Unfortunately, they are a rarity.
My Dd sent me E tickets for a theatre show via her smartphone.
But when I tried to access them on my phone, I couldn’t find the blasted things, I got very stressed out and had to find the box office to try and sort it out.
The whole debacle put a damper on the occasion and neither me or my partner were able to enjoy the show.
Parking😡 particularly on the street is an absolute nightmare.
Brighton has pay by app only. It drives me insane, and I have yet to use it successfully. I sit in the car - waiting for DH and his hospital appointment trying for up to two hours to successfully pay. Haven’t yet achieved it, but so far haven’t yet been approached by a parking bod.
I now only go to the theatre if there is something really worthwhile, as it has got so expensive. We used to go really regularly but no longer - although to be fair there isn’t too much I’m interested in recently. There is a lot of tribute things and evenings with…..
I enjoy a good play, but have learned that unless they are reasonably well known actors it is often very mediocre.
We are lucky in so far as we live close to Brighton’s theatre royal and Chichester festival - both reasonable venues.
Oh! And paying for it😄😄 last time was straightforward - picked tickets up at box office.
Yes indeed, I agree wholeheartedly. My central heating wasn't working, well no hot water. It was nigh impossible to get through to my insurer, I could only contact them with a smart phone. I am 84 years old and all this tech stuff is beyond me.
Whatever happened to choice?
You shouldn’t have to have a Smartphone, to able to do the things you enjoy
Surely your daughter knew you had an old phone so wouldn’t be able to access what you needed to enter.
Get a smartphone asap and find someone to help you use it - if I can use one trust me you will be able to too. Putting tickets etc in your wallet is amazingly easy.
I use my smartphone for almost everything (ordering food/clothes etc, read the news, Google anything you want, love doing this) - don’t need a laptop etc. Although I also have a Kindle.
What a nightmare. We went to a sporting event the other day. We always book our tickets in advance and collect them on the way in. For some reason they weren’t there but one of the ladies at the gate knows us and sorted it out for us. She thinks we’d ticked the wrong box when ordering them. Annoyingly she has recently been moved to another area because she’s too friendly and chatty with the customers. What is wrong with management of some places. It’s people like her that make us return year after year. Don’t get me started on the minefield that is car parking these days which imo loses a lot of revenue for shops etc because people are so scared of getting a parking fine or ending up in a bus lane.
I need a young person
If you had a smart phone it's easy.
I use Wallet all the time. I often buy Theatre tickets for my son..
They are Automatically sent to my wallet. I just open up, screen shoot them and wizz them across via Wotsapp to him. Think you can send direct as well.
Most tickets are either QR code or bar code now.
Glad you enjoyed the talk shame you had so much grief.
Absolutely agree, if I see I have to book through EventBrite I often decide not to bother.
Had an email from my DD saying she'd bought tickets for a talk I really wanted to go to.
BUT went to print off the email when I noticed 'Can't be used as entry' printed across the bottom, Hmmm what to do ?
My daughter had to open an App thingy to send them to me, which I had to then accept, I had to then open an App and then when I thought all was ok I got an email telling me to put the tickets in a Wallet!! I really hadn't got a clue and instead of enjoying the pre show meal I was all worked up about this stupid process
Any way got to the theatre and of course my rather small basic old phone couldn't get internet
Stewards made me stand outside until near to tears I asked if I could talk to the box office staff. I produced the original email I'd printed out with the seat numbers on and they happily showed me to my seat! A lovely talk, but what a nightmare! So beware if anyone sends you tickets via Ticketmaster in an Email, life isn't simple anymore!
