Pretty noisy here. Mr C is sound asleep. I’ll read for a bit and wait for it to calm down. Only once a year and we have no animals to fret about.

Very noisy here, but marvellous to watch. Fortunately our dog is unmoved by the bangs.
They seemed to stop at 00.15, then then suddenly there was a display over at the University which has lasted another 5 minutes.

Yes: amazing London show to watch on TV, but I know it's so tough when you have loved animals.

Time for quiet fireworks, which are perfectly possible.

More fireworks going off at the back of my house, now. My last dog was ok till she went into the garden one night just as one went off. Don’t want it to happen to this one….

My cats aren‘t impressed

I commented elsewhere that my poor cat was terrified by them.
I have hated fireworks since I was a child. A boy who lived next door was seriously burned when the fireworks he had in his pocket caught fire. On another occasion we went to a friend’s house where the fireworks, stored in a cardboard box, ignited. The explosions petrified me.

The Netherlands is now planning to reduce the sale of fireworks.

Apparently, Ireland has already banned them.

We have someone near us who seems to set off fireworks to celebrate the post arriving on time.

Joking apart, it's always the loud bangs. There's nothing wrong with (relatively) quiet, colourful displays, so why the noisy ones? Fortunately, our current felines don't seem bothered, but it is distressing for a lot of pets (and owners too).

Times change, people's behaviour has changed, so maybe it's time to limit who can have fireworks, or at least ban the noisy ones like bangers.

Chinese New Year celebrations began today. Fireworks will be a feature.

That’ll go down like a lead brick in some communities………….where they celebrate New Year with fireworks displays lasting a very long time. Been there, witnessed it and believe me, it sounds like a bombing raid.
