AIBU in becoming irritated by the fact that almost every time he is introduced it is "former detective Rav Wilding". I think we all know by now he was a detective some years ago, but why do they still feel they need to hammer it home? Anybody else find this irritating?

He was a detective in the British Transport Police for less than 3 months before becoming a Z List Celebrity.

Gather you don't like him then, KKOB

Eight years as a DC with the Metropolitan Police too, a short time with the CID area of BTP, as well as appearing from 2004 in Crimewatch.

Perhaps you don't like Scam Interceptors for some reason, KKOB πŸ€”

I loved him and his crew on Scam Interceptors...

BridgetPark No I do not find it irritation, as a former emergency services worker, I want to β€˜big up’ the family and as he was a paratrooper as well, good on him, I thank our boys and girls who serve

People can talk about celebs on here, and people wont know them.
If I know them, I wont know other people talked about.

fancythat Fri 30-Jan-26 09:00:56

fwiw, I dont know who you are talking about

Clawdy Fri 30-Jan-26 09:04:21

He's lovely! Always enjoy watching Rav.

Silvertwigs, I am not denigrating his service, I am sure it was admirable. I applaud all people who serve this country so well.
It is simply the introduction of him on that programme. To me, it comes across as vanity, which is not really a nice quality, in my opinion. I believe he is ok at his presenting role, and he has stuck at it, doggedly, and I am sure he has many admirers, as had been commented on here.
Just not for me, thankyou

Basgetti Fri 30-Jan-26 09:13:14

I’m afraid I don’t know who he is so would probably find that useful.

Did you know that one of the other investigators/presenters on Scam Interceptors is Nick Stapleton, whose parents were John Stapleton (Nationwide and Watchdog) and Lynn Faulds Wood (Watchdog)?

I read he had nine years with the met and then a short time with transport police. If a significant part of that was as a detective I think it is very relevant information when dealing with scams and other criminal activity and I have no issues with it being said. Who knows how many new viewers there are on any given day.

Ilovedogs22 Fri 30-Jan-26 11:41:05

I cannot stand the man. I find him big-headed & cocky.
Futhermore, his over-bearing presence spoils the brilliant Scam intercepters. Anyone would think he was doing it all! πŸ€”

I don't understand the argument.

If I were a commis chef for 5 years, then progressed to being a sous chef but left after 3 months, I would still be "a former sous chef" because that was my last role. My title wouldn't sink back down to square one?
So, assuming he was a detective when he left the police, then what's wrong?

theworriedwell Fri 30-Jan-26 12:19:20

Why are people ignoring his years with the met? Seems petty.

What a non event to be fretting about. I assume some people don't like him, fair enough we can't like everyone, so they are just looking for something to criticise him about. For a kick off I don't think he introduced himself as a former detective. Maybe have a go at the ones that say it if you need to have a go at someone.

Quite

It is. People hasten to say how much they dislike a presenter on the TV or who has won a competition on tv when they have never met them. Is it the envy monster?

Or is it Tall Poppy Syndrome? Started in Australia and New Zealand, perhaps it makes people feel better about themselves to knock down someone more successful than them?
We must have egalitarianism.

Better to be qualified and experienced than merely famous for being a celebrity. I think he and the team do an excellent job.

Yes, they do.
