Semi-naked in red carpet: Chappell Roan

At the risk of sounding a total prude, I was shocked at seeing singer Chappell Roan on the Grammy’s red carpet, with her flimsy dress (if you can call it that) attached to her by nipple clamps, revealing her boobs in all their glory. Whatever next?! There have even been totally transparent dresses on the red carpet and bottom cleavage too! I’m almost laughing as I type this, I don’t know why, but I don’t think it’s acceptable, it’s just unbelievable. Will it soon be ok to reveal even more of the human body in public? A few years ago, this would never have been permissible. I sound like Mary Whitehouse, I realise, but I just find it incredible. Not only is it attention-seeking of the the highest order, but isn’t it also indecent exposure? Have I missed something? How come this is ok? The photo of her has been pixelated over the nipple area, by the way, as you can probably tell.

Elegran

I've not seen any photos for a while of Bianca Censori being led around on a leash wearing almost nothing, as a demonstration of the power of her lord and master. Perhaps she has seen the light and walked out on him. I hope so.

I hope so too, Elegran. When I saw this photograph and the expression on her face, my first thought was of coercion.

Maybe there will be a revolt and return to elegance

Oh that looks far too chilly!

I love Chapel Rowan - she writes her own stuff and plays the piano and is still young. Have a listen to Kaleidoscope by her if you've never heard of her. However, I do agree about that dress! It's horrible - why would anyone want to go out looking like that!

Those outfits don’t enhance their wearers as impressive women or role models imo

An absolute mess why do females dress almost revealing all parts of their body, and yet males turn out in a top and trousers. Woukd be accept males appearing with nothing on top or a vest, a pair of shorts or a mankini. When it comes to dress males seem to have more sense.

Justin Bieber wore silk boxers and socks only…

Looks horrendously uncomfortable!

I would have thought it would be classed as indecent exposure.
Surely it would if she walked outside like that.

Attention seeking is terribly poor taste. So is the so called dress.

When we were teenagers there were women appearing in public "topless". In the 1950´s there were backless evening dresses - ones that covered the bottom of the wearer, but left the rest of her back in plain sight. There have always been women who were willing to go to extremes to draw attention to themselves.

In the 1980s some young men wore trousers so tight they left nothing to the imagination and don't get me started on the beach wear of either sex!

Vulgar certainly, and the details are new, but not the phenomenon.

The rap artists partner who seems to spend her days wearing next to nothing (Censori?) is the worst and, judging by photos, she goes out in public to restaurants etc undresses in the same way. She also always looks miserable so why do it?
Seems to me that one day some woman will appear on the cat walk or at some awards ceremony totally naked and then there won't be any shock element left and maybe women will start to cover up again. Never thought I was a prude but re-reading this, maybe I am! Oh dear!!!

It's not even attractive really. A fabulous dress like many of the stars wear is so much nicer.
Perhaps she forgot to put her vest on.

Love this. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It always strikes me as sexist too - with the way it's always women with their "bits hanging out" - but never men.

Thank the lord for that.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

These horror outfits (someone actually 'designed' them?) always remind me of the late Kenny Everett inventing a character called Cupid Stunt, a stereotypical empty-headed starlet, extremely badly dressed and her catchphrase was "it's all in the best possible taste!"

I agree that this isn't a particularly attractive look. Terrible shame when at that age you can look "absolutely fabulous" with almost no effort.
The dress gives the impression of dragging her boobs down and the colour is dull.
The clothes designers dress the Stars for free at these events, don't they ? to advertise their dresses and other outfits. So do we suppose that she chose this one out of thousands or at least hundreds ?
Takes all sorts.

SueDonim that took me back! My mum used to say Titsalina Bumsquash 😂

Fallingstar - you have successfully hit the nail on the head with your thoughts 👏

labazs Wed 04-Feb-26 15:04:52

not being rude but having the dress attached by nipple clamps I would think at the end of the night you would be quite sore!

Lostmyglassesxx Wed 04-Feb-26 14:43:06

Attached to sheer fabric to look like it’s her body .. not that it makes much difference !

SaxonGrace Wed 04-Feb-26 14:41:11

I think it’s very sad that these women feel the need to be semi naked in public, I was watching a documentary on Brigit Bardot , she was labelled a slut in the media in the 50s/60s for wearing far more than these girls do, she was beautiful till the end without fillers, Botox, plastic surgery etc. she was also a huge supporter of women’s rights employing a female, manger, producers writers etc.

I hate body shaming anyone, but horrors!! She doesn't need to go around like that, she's successful anyway.
On a brighter note, I understand bikini bottoms with proper coverage are coming back as women are fed up with being so 'exposed' on the beach.
Gosh,I'm old!

KKOB Wed 04-Feb-26 14:14:17

It's just attention seeking. They'll have their 15 minutes and then they'll be forgotten again.
