Semi-naked in red carpet: Chappell Roan

At the risk of sounding a total prude, I was shocked at seeing singer Chappell Roan on the Grammy’s red carpet, with her flimsy dress (if you can call it that) attached to her by nipple clamps, revealing her boobs in all their glory. Whatever next?! There have even been totally transparent dresses on the red carpet and bottom cleavage too! I’m almost laughing as I type this, I don’t know why, but I don’t think it’s acceptable, it’s just unbelievable. Will it soon be ok to reveal even more of the human body in public? A few years ago, this would never have been permissible. I sound like Mary Whitehouse, I realise, but I just find it incredible. Not only is it attention-seeking of the the highest order, but isn’t it also indecent exposure? Have I missed something? How come this is ok? The photo of her has been pixelated over the nipple area, by the way, as you can probably tell.

Ps the photo seems to have disappeared (on my screen at least). Has it been censored? You may need to Google it if you’re interested.

pps I think the photo has magically appeared now!

I know the object's to get attention, & this outfit certainly does that.
She will get some second glances, that's for sure, if only to find out if it's a style statement or a wardrobe malfunction.

V3ra Tue 03-Feb-26 21:54:58

Well she doesn't look very happy about it. Not exactly flattering.
Attention seeking, that's all 🙄

Julia Fox at Oscars after party last year.

I wouldn’t have thought it was very comfortable!

Dreadful. Know it's all about having be seen but what a sight. If ever those nipple clamps catch on some thing she will be losing more than her dress.

It looks blinkin awful too. What happened to wanting to look glamorous or beautiful?
Showing your knickers and your boobs and a bit of a brown floor cloth - just because you CAN doesn’t necessarily mean that you SHOULD

Well "You learn something every day". She's wearing "Pasties" which are apparently prosthetic nipples! So she got plenty of publicity which presumably is what she wanted. Maybe some respect for herself is lacking 😖 .

Is another young woman who forgets to put on her clothes, I think her second name is Censori, or something like that, she is married to a rap artist I believe.
Is just to get noticed but back in the day they would certainly have been noticed and arrested for indecent exposure.
I wonder why we don’t see men wandering around with their bits hanging out?
Women need to think that one through and then realise they’re being played by a male dominated industry that encourages them to do this. They are not making some kind of feminist statement that is for sure.

CocoPops Tue 03-Feb-26 22:35:45

Apparently the dress is a copy of a Mugler 1998 dress.

pably15 Tue 03-Feb-26 23:11:02

Must be the only way for them to get noticed....

henetha Tue 03-Feb-26 23:14:42

It's not even attractive really. A fabulous dress like many of the stars wear is so much nicer.
Perhaps she forgot to put her vest on.

Sadgrandma Tue 03-Feb-26 23:17:25

I used to enjoy seeing the beautiful dresses on the red carpet but now I look on in horror. What are these women thinking? They could get attention by looking beautiful rather than parading around naked. Of course they will be the first ones to complain that they are getting unwanted attention from men though!

CariadAgain Tue 03-Feb-26 23:23:07

It always strikes me as sexist too - with the way it's always women with their "bits hanging out" - but never men.

M0nica Tue 03-Feb-26 23:24:16

She could at least have done it with some style. her deportment is poor, the dress looks like something cheap bought in a market, no shape, no drape, just hangs and it would have been very painful had anyone stood on the dress asshe was walking.

SueDonim Tue 03-Feb-26 23:49:34

My mother would say ‘Ooh, look at Titsalina there!’. grin

True enough Rosie.

It's sad, so sad more than anything, when I look back to the Golden Age of Hollywood of the 30's, 40's and 50's when stars and potential stars were rigorously managed and disciplined by their agents, PR people and their record companies and the film studios especially.

Images were meticulously regimented - every aspect of a star's career was scrutinized by their employers and outward appearances were of paramount importance. A studio would never have allowed one of their stars to appear on the red carpet looking like Chappell Roan, Kim Kardashian or Kanye West's current wife who appeared at an event apparently naked.

There was a time when glamour and style (plus talent!) was the goal to aim for - not pornographic, attention-seeking tat.

Don’t forget the casting couch of that era, Mae13.

Yes, and I expect the Casting Couch is still in operation, unfortunately.

It always strikes me as sexist too - with the way it's always women with their "bits hanging out" - but never men.

It's a male-dominated industry and some women are gullible enough to believe being half-naked at an award ceremony is "empowering".

As you say, men, generally, don't appear showing off their bits - perhaps they want to be taken a tad more seriously for their talent?

... which makes me think that women themselves are contributing to their own lack of recognition as serious players...

Did you see Heidi Klum? She was wearing what looked like a Kraft Cheese Slice hurriedly torn from its packaging and molded on - she couldn't even walk in the 'dress' and had to take little shuffling steps to move forward. She looked absolutely absurd!

denbylover Wed 04-Feb-26 03:37:47

I think it is dreadfully sad that some women turn up at these functions and have misinterpreted the ‘less is more’ idiom.

Calendargirl Wed 04-Feb-26 07:04:37

Never heard of her before this.

Just looks a mess, outfit, hair, miserable face….

BlueBelle Wed 04-Feb-26 07:15:20

I too have never heard of her but poor lady looks so atrocious she has very bad posture, her boobs are sagging, for a youngish person, and the dress is quite boringly horrible Not a lot going for her really, poor lady
Pretty hair surrounding that sulky face
