Semi-naked in red carpet: Chappell Roan

At the risk of sounding a total prude, I was shocked at seeing singer Chappell Roan on the Grammy’s red carpet, with her flimsy dress (if you can call it that) attached to her by nipple clamps, revealing her boobs in all their glory. Whatever next?! There have even been totally transparent dresses on the red carpet and bottom cleavage too! I’m almost laughing as I type this, I don’t know why, but I don’t think it’s acceptable, it’s just unbelievable. Will it soon be ok to reveal even more of the human body in public? A few years ago, this would never have been permissible. I sound like Mary Whitehouse, I realise, but I just find it incredible. Not only is it attention-seeking of the the highest order, but isn’t it also indecent exposure? Have I missed something? How come this is ok? The photo of her has been pixelated over the nipple area, by the way, as you can probably tell.

she forgot her liberty bodice..catch a cold

Yes, I can hear my Mum saying “you’ll catch your death going out dressed like that”. 😱

Mael13 - HA HA HA! I loved Kenny, and his Cupid Stunt had me crying with laughter! ''I was proposed to by a queen, but that's another story!''

I think Chappell is absolutely hideous at the best of times, both physically and mentally, but that monstrous thing she's ''wearing'' is grotesque.

If any of us here went out in public ''in'' that we'd be done for indecent exposure and cod knows what else!

Frankly, it reeks of ''common slut''.

I never understood why Bianca Censori (Kanye West's wife) wasn't done for indecent exposure given some of the 'outfits' she was (barely) wearing. Imagine popping out to Tesco in something like that!

It all smacks of desperation and an an awareness that, even though it is 2026, selling your sex is a way up the ladder for women still - how very sad.

Not sure what look she was aiming for, but it didn't make her look any more attractive.

What a getup!

I like the matching hair, the only good part.

Mermaid like?

PoppyBlue Wed 04-Feb-26 09:09:58

As you say, men, generally, don't appear showing off their bits - perhaps they want to be taken a tad more seriously for their talent?

Justin Bieber performed in his underpants at the same event.

Truly dreadful.

But it's a topsy-turvy old world when someone who takes off their clothes so that others can stare at their body parts is paid vastly more money than someone who, for example, contributes to medical science, or has studied enough and is skilled enough to save lives via such advances in medical science.

Society values a Kardashian over an Einstein I'm afraid.

I was quiet shocked that her single Pink Pony Club was nothing to do with equines…

Haha, no it's certainly not! The Grammys are always an excuse for someone to try to outdo the 'shocking' outfits from the last awards ceremony and garner the most publicity possible - so in that regard, she's certainly succeeded!

Wyllow3 Wed 04-Feb-26 08:51:02

No, it doesn't shock me in the slightest, it's "showing off" for publicity, tawdry, and often not by those who conform to current ideas of naked beauty (which is silly anyway).

Oh, men show off their bits in publicity shots. Said bits may be covered but you can be sure if the said bits are substantial we'll know abut them.

grin

My mum used to say don’t show everything leave something to the imagination!

Fallingstar Wed 04-Feb-26 08:44:09

I personally think that the old stars of yesterday, the likes of Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe, looked way more stunning wearing amazing dresses on the red carpet, with never a boob or bottom on show. I think these awful outfits do absolutely nothing for the woman wearing them.

mae13 Wed 04-Feb-26 08:42:15

These horror outfits (someone actually 'designed' them?) always remind me of the late Kenny Everett inventing a character called Cupid Stunt, a stereotypical empty-headed starlet, extremely badly dressed and her catchphrase was "it's all in the best possible taste!"

Iam64 Wed 04-Feb-26 08:25:46

Truly dreadful on every level. Just how we’d want our daughters and granddaughters to dress for a special event. Makes me glad I live in a former mill town where we still ‘dress up’ not down for special events

Sarnia Wed 04-Feb-26 07:38:14

She isn't the only one who appears semi-naked at events.
I wish they would have some self respect. They look tawdry and cheap dressing like that. They do not do young girls and women any favours. It sends the wrong message to certain types of men. For me, women leaving something to the imagination are far more alluring.

Astitchintime Wed 04-Feb-26 07:23:36

Clearly got no mirrors in her home then!!!

David49 Wed 04-Feb-26 07:15:32

Women go to ever more extremes to get attention, presumably because they think it makes them more attractive, all it does is attract the wrong kind of attention.

Will they ever learn.

BlueBelle Wed 04-Feb-26 07:15:20

I too have never heard of her but poor lady looks so atrocious she has very bad posture, her boobs are sagging, for a youngish person, and the dress is quite boringly horrible Not a lot going for her really, poor lady
Pretty hair surrounding that sulky face

Calendargirl Wed 04-Feb-26 07:04:37

Never heard of her before this.

Just looks a mess, outfit, hair, miserable face….

denbylover Wed 04-Feb-26 03:37:47

I think it is dreadfully sad that some women turn up at these functions and have misinterpreted the ‘less is more’ idiom.

Dickens Wed 04-Feb-26 02:11:22

It always strikes me as sexist too - with the way it's always women with their "bits hanging out" - but never men.

It's a male-dominated industry and some women are gullible enough to believe being half-naked at an award ceremony is "empowering".

As you say, men, generally, don't appear showing off their bits - perhaps they want to be taken a tad more seriously for their talent?

... which makes me think that women themselves are contributing to their own lack of recognition as serious players...

Did you see Heidi Klum? She was wearing what looked like a Kraft Cheese Slice hurriedly torn from its packaging and molded on - she couldn't even walk in the 'dress' and had to take little shuffling steps to move forward. She looked absolutely absurd!

Don’t forget the casting couch of that era, Mae13.

Yes, and I expect the Casting Couch is still in operation, unfortunately.
