Semi-naked in red carpet: Chappell Roan

At the risk of sounding a total prude, I was shocked at seeing singer Chappell Roan on the Grammy’s red carpet, with her flimsy dress (if you can call it that) attached to her by nipple clamps, revealing her boobs in all their glory. Whatever next?! There have even been totally transparent dresses on the red carpet and bottom cleavage too! I’m almost laughing as I type this, I don’t know why, but I don’t think it’s acceptable, it’s just unbelievable. Will it soon be ok to reveal even more of the human body in public? A few years ago, this would never have been permissible. I sound like Mary Whitehouse, I realise, but I just find it incredible. Not only is it attention-seeking of the the highest order, but isn’t it also indecent exposure? Have I missed something? How come this is ok? The photo of her has been pixelated over the nipple area, by the way, as you can probably tell.

What I always notice is you never see any A-Z list men walking round virtually naked, showing off their mucles and manhood the way these women put everything on view. I remember Barat(??) but he didnt wear his mankini to flaunt his physical assets.

Since the majority of women are uninterested, who are they doing this display for - Guess!

Forget all the cant about having freedom to be sexy etc, flaunt it, etc. These women dress like this do it for the publicity and want to attract the attention of the men that matter.

I think that Chappel Roan's evening dress was fitted with fake nipples, so she was fully -covered & not showing her Lady bits!
I have to say, it actually doesn't show anything; everything is covered-up in reality. Not a real nipple insight!
It's really is less revealing than some of the flimsy bikinis I see at my local chlorine-fumed pool.
That being so, the so-called dress, not-worn by Kanye West's current squeeze was absolutely scandalous & ruddy shocking.
I can't understand how she was allowed to prance around in public like that? 🤔

The image she wanted to project (literally) was that her nipples were holding up the dress. It is not all that relevant that they were fake, she was still choosing to be naff and outrageous, with an undertone of masochism. Similarly Bianca Censori, her nudity and bondage is deliberate.

Sex (even the missionary position for respectably married couples) was once unmentionable in polite company, then it became Ok to talk about it. Less conventional alternatives crept into public awareness, and those who were bored with their love lives adopted the latest fad in private, or for exhibitionists increasingly in public, as a demonstration of how uninhibited and "FREE!!!" they are, and how much they revel in displaying that "freedom". It is a two finger gesture to their "repressed" mothers who tried to keep them from exploitation - and from imprisonment in their subjugation.

Concepts of morality and propriety go in cycles. By the time our grandchildren are grandparents, their grandchildren may not even be showing their ankles or elbows.

But we have nude beaches and have had a "page three" for years and years full of on nipples since 1970. Bought daily by millions of men for the page. Why complain now about some silly dress with pretend nipples as if it was some new kind of appalling "come on" to men?

Have none of us really heard how many men (less than in the past) and how common it was how they really talked about women in locker room situations whether they were under dressed or not?

Deedaa Sat 07-Feb-26 21:05:51

So girls see "stars" dressed like this, and they go out with their skirts hitched up over their bums, and then they complain if some bloke tries to take advantage (or worse) It begins to look like manipulation. Also that garment looked dreadful. Not flattering at all. Just a bit of cloth hung from her nipples and revealing a pretty ordinary body. A decent dress could have made her look stunning.

I’m just exhausted y the way the Epstein men spoke about and treated women. My daughters wouldn’t accept that sh* nor would their friendship group, we all hope their male partners, fathers, brothers wouldn’t.
And yet - so many women seen as commodities to serve the needs and wishes of men, Three steps forward to equality and forty back

So they complain about the "casting couch" and then put themselves out there dressed in less than the ladies of the night.
We talk about sexualising, but these women are our girls' role models. How can we expect our young men to behave respectfully, as they will expect our young women to dress like that.
Then we wonder why our immigrants think we are "easy"

I did wear mini-skirts and hot pants though.

But yes, so we did, Fran! Pretty revealing, along with the wedgies heels.

Frankly, the immigrant thing is pretty racist.

Why mention them specifically? I wont report it - it's too obvious.

We've a whole population of men, some of whom take some types of exposure for "permission".

Well, frankly - it's not. We are surrounded every summer with bikini clad women whose wisps of coverage is far, far smaller than this silly "dress"

Although the "dress" was very revealing, it didn't come across to me a pornographic. Rather, just attention seeking to get personal publicity.

I feel it’s just to get noticed, I often wonder why the stars with all their money look so crap on the red carpet. Looking back to the 40’s/50’s/60’s where they knew what real glamour was.

Here, here I couldn't agree more. These silly woman, what sort of example are they setting to today's young women? Also why? just why? The World's going mad! Anyway, I'm not getting a topless, bottom-out-dress, however much MrIlovedogs begs!

So maybe just go with that?

Must be the only way for them to get noticed....

She's a fantastic singer.

grin Actually, I’ve just seen Addison Rae’s back view and changed my mind!

Maggiemaybe Thu 05-Feb-26 11:58:52

Just awful. Such a talented woman, she really doesn’t need to court publicity like that.

I’ve just had a look at the 67 Grammy outfits on the Vogue site, and there are a few lovely outfits in and amongst. Sabrina Carpenter, for instance, Addison Rae (daring and unusual, but glamorous) and my favourite, Kelsea Ballerini. All is not lost!

In an age where women are, quite rightly, demanding respect from the opposite sex, what sort of message does this send out? Exhibitionist! And she would probably be the first to complain if a man made a comment about her public display of her breasts.

surfsup Thu 05-Feb-26 08:26:44

It’s all for publicity and getting maximum exposure (in more ways than one). They wouldn’t dress like it if it was an ordinary party without the press/paparazzi in attendance.

I totally agree with you all
This behaviour is totally the opposite of feminism, they are being ‘played’ by men! Just for attention!
Never heard of her, she’ll only be remembered as the woman with the sagging boobs hanging out on nipple studs!
Maybe she was trying to do a ‘Liz Hurley’?
Do you remember ‘that dress’? She got her fame from it!
So sad, a form of prostitution very sad,

Its just attention seeking, for men seeing women humiliate thenselves is good sport, they will cheer them on. Years ago Erica Roe ran across Twickenham pitch topless, cheered on by 80,000 mostly men.
Exacty the same, striptease, poledancing, exhibitionism why do they do it

Carbonated Thu 05-Feb-26 07:27:26

This woman's music is stellar. Her choice of advisors clearly is not. Ashamed to say I'm giggling at her stupid dress decision.

barmcake Thu 05-Feb-26 07:25:49

It doesn't look sexy or glamorous to me. If she'd modelled a dress on say, Grace Kelly, then she would have looked elegant and regal.

Attention seekers who value image over substance.

Esmay Thu 05-Feb-26 07:14:03

I don't think that you are a prude - Chapelle Roan looks horrible in that outfit.
She doesn't look happy either .
Not knowing who she is I looked her up and she seems to have many issues.

I love Chapel Rowan - she writes her own stuff and plays the piano and is still young. Have a listen to Kaleidoscope by her if you've never heard of her. However, I do agree about that dress! It's horrible - why would anyone want to go out looking like that!

Have a listen to Kaleidoscope...

I did - it's quite haunting and she has the right voice for it.

I also checked out a few reels. Obviously I'm not her target audience, she appears - as seems to be the trend - usually in corsets and knickers, shouting/singing at the top of her lungs (as they say) and, in one reel, she talks about being "your favourite girl's favourite girl", or something like that, and then tells the audience she will give them what they want - and shouts the word "C**T", and everyone screams with delight (well I think that's what it was).

Bieber appearing in boxers and socks is I suppose the equivalent of knickers and bras.

I'm too old for this, I think I'll have to stick to classical music - theatrical pop/indie/synth - whatever it is, isn't for me!

WithNobsOnIt Wed 04-Feb-26 20:40:40

Soft porn for the masses? Shameless

She probably has her own only Adults web site.

JPB123 Wed 04-Feb-26 20:20:31

They look ridiculous. What message are they sending out to
young fans.

Fallingstar

Is another young woman who forgets to put on her clothes, I think her second name is Censori, or something like that, she is married to a rap artist I believe.
Is just to get noticed but back in the day they would certainly have been noticed and arrested for indecent exposure.
I wonder why we don’t see men wandering around with their bits hanging out?
Women need to think that one through and then realise they’re being played by a male dominated industry that encourages them to do this. They are not making some kind of feminist statement that is for sure.

Well said fallingstar. They are so very short sighted. It's like a public Casting Couch. I despair of women. They are so easily manipulated. No wonder Epstein had so many young women under his control. Do young women believe that feminists did it all for fun?
