New carpets

I have a spare bedroom that has a very heavy (a sort of melamine but good quality and with a sliding door because the room is so small) wardrobe with a matching desk and bookshelf and a horrible IKEA bed that I bought by mistake not realising how huge and heavy it was. Under which is stored years and years of heaven knows what. And annoyingly it’s all on a very cheap carpet which, for some unknown reason, has no underlay. I’d love to turn it into a nice bedroom and sleep there myself as it overlooks the back garden. But I just don’t know where to start with it .

Tge shop we use for new carpets will move heavy furniture as part of the job. We move what we can but they are happy to do the rest.

Yes, we were just talking about this today.

When we had our new bedroom carpet fitted, the carpet fitters moved all the furniture out of the room then back again for a small extra cost.
They were very efficient.

We've just had a new lounge carpet and when placing the order we're asked if we needed furniture moving - for which there would have been an additional charge
Incidentally we found a local independent supplier was cheaper and more helpful than Tapi.

You need to make them aware that there will be furniture to move Glenfinnan, most will for an additional cost but not all.

Is there a small local firm near you? I’d pop in and explain your situation - I’m sure they will be used to this.

Most reputable carpet shops will know fitters who can move things around and stagger the fitting over a few days.

Try Age Concern. They might have a handy man service.

We use a local carpet firm who not only send a representative to our house with their carpet samples, their quotes include removing and putting back the furniture.

I let them know what type of carpet and colour I want.

The carpet fitters I use always move the furniture themselves, they simply asl if any very heavy furniture could be emptied first.

I am doing the same at present replacing lounge and hall/stairs. I had put it off for ages as was worried about all the furniture. Was very pleased when we started looking that several local shops actually will supply fitters who can move the furniture obviously for additional cost and we are doing the replacement in two stages so hall etc will be done and then the lounge as another job

I have always taken it for granted that the carpet fitters expect to move the furniture.

Have a declutterfirst.

We’re having new carpets fitted on Monday by a local firm. They are happy to store the carpet free for 3 months so you can have it fitted in stages. We’re slowly redecorating the whole house so they’ve fitted the carpets when rooms are ready. They are happy to move furniture. Perhaps you could find a local firm and go in to discuss the process as others have suggested? That’s what we did and they’ve been kind and accommodating.

Our local independent carpet shop will move stuff for you, but I'd always flag it up in advance so they can factor in extra time and extra manpower

We used TAPI in two large bedrooms and they moved two large items in each room free of charge and the rest at a reasonable additional fee.

(No, I don’t work for/have shares in them 😁).

Ask at the carpet shop. Some are very helpful.

Need new flooring in my bedroom.
Having been putting it off due to thought of emptying wardrobes and moving a heavy double bed by myself.

But reading through the posts here today and how carpet fitters and companies will help..Has really made my day.

Most reputable carpet fitters will move furniture for an extra charge. They will also spread the job across a few days if necessary to allow beds etc to be moved around.

Georgegirl1, do you know if Age Concern take any responsibility for the people they name? I was told they do not vet them, simply check they are a registered business.

Our local carpet shop moved the heavy furniture for me, no extra costs. Small things obviously I moved and anything on low shelves that might get knocked.

Yes, our carpet fitters moved the bedroom furniture (and back) for an extra £30.
Very efficient they were too.
