A message from my long dead Grandfather is so upsetting.

One of my daughters went to an audience with a psychic medium at the weekend. It was held in a small theatre with a couple of hundred people. On her way out of the theatre the man who was the medium told my daughter he had been asked to give her a message to pass on to me. My late GF had told him to tell me he loved me. This man used my GF's first and second Christian names and my first Christian name. My daughter is delighted with this and couldn't wait to ring me. I am very torn. I don't have feelings either way on the reliability of psychics but if pushed I would say I think there is something strange about them. I also have this uncomfortable feeling that he isn't 'at rest'. He was the gentlest of men and I have such fond memories of him. I am quite upset by it all. Any other sceptics had anything like this?

These individuals plant people in the audience to listen to conversations, they look up social media to check on those who post messages about the event, have booked tickets etc. so much gleaned from social media postings. They also say very general things that could apply to anybody.

‘Is there a Karen here tonight, or a Dave? Uncle Jim says to mind out when crossing the road’ and so on.

Forget about it Sarnia it won’t be real.

I have been to see a local psychic a few times. Twice he has given me a reading in a full sold out hall. The first time about 3 years ago he gave information that only family would know, we bought tickets on the door so there was absolutely no way that he could have known anything about us. We had recently moved to the area and had brought a potted Japanese Acer with us as it was my late husband’s favourite plant, the psychic mentioned that in the reading, he also said about my late husband’s classic American car, the date he passed and many more things he could not have possibly known, including an issue we had with my husband’s Funeral Director. He also thanked my daughter who was with me for caring for me so well (I had just been diagnosed with Fallopian Tube Cancer and had undergone two major surgeries that we hadn’t told anyone outside of the direct family about).
The second reading was a couple of months ago and again he gave an outstanding reading including telling me that my sister Jan was sorry that we hadn’t had the chance to grow up together (I had been adopted out of the family) and that our time together had been too short (we’d found each other 12 years ago).
I do believe that some people are capable of receiving messages from the other side.

Well you just put out a great deal of info on this post!
There may be 'mediums,' here too!

It's a con. Ignore it.

This is all so true.

And whilst I am unable to prove there's nothing and no-one on 'the other side' has it ever been proved, beyond doubt, that there is?

Thank you all so much. It found it very unsettling but your messages have comforted me. Thank you.

Indeed I have, to give context to my comment. A lot of the more personal things the psychic told us were things that had not been put out in the realms of social media and would have been impossible to guess.

Sarnia, I advise you to watch the film 'Ghost'. The police officer describes how such people get information about you and your dear ones and use it to make money off you.

There need not exist "another side". I myself have been to a psychic . She was very good indeed , deserved her good reputation, and I liked her.

Everything she said could be attributed to her ability to read character and body language.

Many years ago, just after losing my daughter, a friend who regularly saw a medium said that the medium had told her she had a message for her friend who had just lost someone very close and this friend must come to her for messages. I still feel angry thinking about that. It's a dangerous game these people play.

Only some are charlatans. There are undoubtedly people with an uncanny knack of communicating in some way with the departed. It's facile to say it's all trickery.

nanna8 Wed 01-Apr-26 13:32:45

I agree with Aveline The trouble is knowing which are genuine so I would avoid them all, for that reason. Some things we are not meant to know.

polly123 Wed 01-Apr-26 13:49:27

There are many charlatans as several people have described. However, that doesn't mean that some people have this sensitivity or gift to somehow 'tune in' to something beyond our understanding.

polly123 Wed 01-Apr-26 13:50:23

Sorry that should read 'some people do not have'

Aldom Wed 01-Apr-26 13:50:32

Dayvidg. grin I'm another who according to Google does not exist.

Oreo Wed 01-Apr-26 15:13:17

Are you a ghost Aldom?😁

About 20’years ago when dd had been part of a “Circle”for awhile where people who were of a like mind met together something strange happened. I had just realised my df was dying and I was coming home on a bus and had uncontrolled tears pouring down my face. I hadn’t told my dd or seen her that week but the next morning she phoned me and said she had received a phone call from the group as she was away that evening. They said they thought they had received a message meant for me. It was from a woman in a long skirt standing outside a big house. It was “You must accept what is happening”. She asked if that meant anything. I knew immediately it was from my grandmother. It was exactly what she would have said.

Lovetopaint037 Wed 01-Apr-26 19:44:13

She said that the group were adamant that if you had a gift you never made money from it. There were so many things that my dd told me that she couldn’t have possibly known that I was convinced there is more we don’t understand.

I have mixed feelings about psychics.
They seem to charge a lot of money for their services .
My Aunt had a nervous breakdown when her youngest son son died from pneumonia.
She then consulted a psychic who charged her huge amounts of money to connect with him .
Her family were comfortably off,but were horrified by her obsession.
One of my friends is also obsessed with all sorts of psychics and can't really afford to consult them.
To be honest ,though I'm not a complete sceptic it concerns me .
I think that she's been drawn into the occult.
Every time I see her I have to listen to two of three hours of mumbo jumbo .
It goes against my Christian faith .
I get my consolation through prayer and find peace about those who have passed .
But each to their own .
If this psychic has said that your Grandfather is at peace and loved you -let it pass .
Please don't consult a psychic .

BlueBelle Wed 01-Apr-26 23:23:17

Why do you listen for two or three hours Esmay just say ‘we don’t share this idea, do you mind if we talk about something else’ to listen for two or three hours is just encouraging her

True.

However which is the more probable- explanation----

1. Dead people can still be alive enough to communicate

Or

2. The medium is very good at intelligent and empathetic guessing.

Aveline Thu 02-Apr-26 13:16:19

Good mediums couldn't possibly guess the sorts of things they say. I'm meaning really detailed and specific personal stuff.

Since good mediums can earn quite a lot of money it's worth their trouble to sort through your rubbish, or to insert into your life a 'friend' or acquaintance to spy on their behalf.

I agree there's no proof that life after death goes not exist. However I cannot see that once the physical brain has become dust or ashes the dead person's mind can keep on functioning.
