Am I alone in not appreciating the trend for wasting yarn by knitting and crocheting stuff and wrapping or draping it around trees and street furniture? I think most of it looks quite tacky and was disappointed to see trees in a local park where we had gone hoping to see the changing leaf colours had been ‘adorned’ with by now rain-soaked brightly coloured pieces of knitting.
I don’t object to the creative toppers placed on post boxes or the little dolls people make, but this festooning of trees really annoys me.
If crafters want to do something creative as part of a community project why not stop wasting fabric and instead use it to make useful items such as hats, scarves and blankets which could be donated to charitable causes.
