Can't see what's in craft magazines

It isn't just craft magazines that come with those annoying plastic wrappers and extra little booklets that obscure the list of contents.When you can read the list of articles on nthe cover, it is no guide to how interesting the article in the magazine will actually be. I will not buy a magazine unless I can leaf through it and see whether the articles are as interesting as they sound.

I agree, the only mags I sometimes buy are for patterns - like burdastyle. I am relatively new to dressmaking (have been doing some for the last five years or so) and have a friend who is a professional patternist. She always recommended burdaystyle as the patterns are professional. The problem with the internet and patterns is that they can be really dire, and if you don't know what you are doing, you don't find that out until you have cut the fabric and realise that the pattern doesn't match up!
Having said that, i often go onto the burdastyle website, find what i want and only buy that pattern! Much cheaper and i don't end up with a load of patterns i don't want.

I agree - I never find anything of interest in any of these creative magazines these days, whether they're cross stitch, quilting, card making, knitting, crochet, even photography. I think part of the problem is that we've all become a little more discerning now we have the internet. Time was when those mags where all that there was to inspire us. Now there is a whole world of inspiration. Who needs a magazine these days when there are countless thousands of ideas and patterns online, many of them free to download.

I agree. Most annoying when you can't see the front cover properly. I rarely buy magazines but I did buy an art mag not so long ago but I only glanced through it as none of the articles were of interest. It had four graphite pencils stuck on the front and I've never used those, either! Waste of money.

I am sure there used to be magazines with a good cross section of levels of ability in the particular craft but now they all seem out to catch the beginner. There is a lot on YouTube and Pinterest though and some blogs are really good.

I agree too. Bought 5 or 6 copies of quilting magazine and found nothing of interest. Quite expensive too.

I have bought knitting and crochet magazines a few times, and thought afterwards 'why did I do that, I don't want to knit any of the patterns and I certainly don't need the yarn/needles or whatever was stuck on the front'.

Somewhere I have two old magazines all about scrapbooking but have never done any yet!

I si sgree, one of my nephews bought me a years subscription to World of Cross stitching magazine ,five magazines into the years and found nothing worth stitching and that damn plastic , grrrrr
