Sampler for new grandchild's birth?

Thanks again for all suggestions. Having zero design skills as well as having been the last in my housework class to finish her embroidered pyjama case, I'll think I'll go to John Lewis and see what looks within my scope. Do pyjama cases even still exist? And I guess sewing classes for girls have long gone - I'm remembering back to the mid-60s and it seems archaic even for that era.

I bought some cross-stitch canvas and drew various things on it. Name, birthstone, flower, astrological sign.etc. It was a huge hit with the parents as it was so personal to the child.

If you want to see them "in the flesh" John Lewis have some good ones. I got one for my nephew's wedding from there.

Find a poem / picture on the internet print it off and transfer the picture to some canvas by using tracing paper then embroider in basic back or chain stitch, get a nice frame and you have a very personal sampler. I did a poem like this for my son and his wife for their wedding. (Im hopeless at cross stitch!)

It is a lovely idea if you have the skill and the patience. Go for it.

My DD3 used to do cross stitch samplers to order for Babies birth ,they were gorgeous and kept her in pocket money. she now has three wee ones and no time to do them samplers

Have you thought of cross stitch. Easier to do and can be bought any size ( if it's needed for November, buy a small one). Hope you find what you are looking for. Lovely idea

Hobbycraft have large selection of this type of work..

I've just had a quick look on Amazon under needle work sampler kits.
They have several which seem to be of varying difficulty.
