3D pens. Any good?

I've seen them but was left wondering if the product you have to have to put in it to make the 3d items would prove too expensive to make it a decent gift. I thought it would end up in a cupboard along with the mini chocolate machines and doughnut makers etc

I see that Lidl will have some of these on offer from Thursday, although there are cheaper on Ebay. I had never heard of them, but after looking on Youtube I wondered whether some of my teenage GCs would like to have them as Christmas presents as well as the usual money.
Have any of you seen or tried one of these pens? It works a bit like a glue gun. I would like to get an idea of whether I would be wasting my money.
