We visited a farm last year where there were rescued chickens in jumpers, I was amazed! But what a good idea. I have also seen lambs in jumpers in the fields.

I knitted jumpers for my 5 rescued battery hens when I got them. I found the pattern on Ravelry.

Not sure Fennel, never had any feedback although the requests keep coming.

Yes there are lots on Google for knitted ones, but not crocheted.
Don't they peck at them and try to get them off?

Billybob4491 Wed 23-Jan-19 15:44:55

Katek I have knitted jumpers for chickens, typed request in google and a pattern came up. Also knitted jumpers for penguins in the past.

I wrapped mine in tin foil.....seriously. We got 6 bald birds once, like you it was in the winter. I wrapped then up in tin foil and a week or so until their new feathers came through. Kept them in a shed with loads of hay (softer that straw)

Well, it certainly put me off my chicken sandwich lunch.

Thanks for all the links ladies......now busy with the crochet hook! Will post pics once the girls have their jumpers.

There shouldn't be any battery hens-------I'm dead against this form of farming. No wonder they've got no feathers poor things, they're suffering and it's cruel.

Katek wonderful and I hope find some patterns. If I ever have hens again I will get rescue girls. A friend had some and it was glorious to see them on grass for the first time ever and behaving as hens should in the sunshine. Good on 'yer girl

Ahh I never knew that I thought you meant a jumper with a chicken on the front too
I hope you get them warmed up poor little things

Missed the d off done ( read that for one)

Hi KateK . I've found this pattern on ravelry. I don't think it's downloadable, but it's very easy. It's all one in double crochet. It's written in American terminology, but just do dc instead of sc. I can follow anything as I'm now bilingual where crochet is concerned. You might be able to print out the pattern .

Sorry - should have been more specific! Yes, I’m making jumpers for rescue chickens as they don’t have any feathers. They will grow back but the jumpers keep them warm until they do. The stitch names in US patterns are different so it’s jusr easier to work with UK ones. (Pic shows condition of a rescued bird)?

Battery hens rarely come with all their feathers!

Well doneKatek for having them, I wish I could persuade my DH that we could do with some. I really miss that contented clucking.

BlueBelle Tue 22-Jan-19 19:34:50

Jumpers for chickens why? Have they got no feathers ?

Auntieflo Tue 22-Jan-19 19:33:28

I also thought jumpers with chickens on them!
Hope someone comes up with a pattern lickety split, thise poor rescue battery hens will be so cold in this weather.

Greyduster Tue 22-Jan-19 19:30:47

God, I thought you meant jumpers with chickens on! Do chickens actually wear jumpers?? I’m gobsmacked!

midgey Tue 22-Jan-19 19:25:48

Are American chickens different? Or do you mean the instructions are different? Is this any www.hencam.co.uk/hencam_forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=414

Can anyone point me in the direction of a downloadable UK pattern for crochet chicken jumper? I’ve found some American ones but wouid prefer UK version.

There are 3 chilly rescue birds waiting for their jumpers!
