2nd Nativity set...

Mary51, my Nativity sheep are about 2 1/2 - 3” high. Now in the loft so can’t measure them!

I find small animal so fiddly to sew up and embroider eyes on that they tend to get left for ages.

I made one out of plastic canvas and yarn for my stepdaughter years ago.

The sheep look lovely. How tall are they?

I made one with a few extras and sold it on ebay. You are correct in saying how fiddly they are to assemble! Itakes longer than the knitting. Here is mine.

grandtante I love your twiggy stable. I have a glue gun and will be trying to make one. GD likes playing with the figures but it will be better with a stable. I have been looking at Pinterest to get ideas but yours is great.

Witzend Your figures have a quite justifiable look of surprise on their faces.

It was a bit of an eye-opener for me as I had never quite taken in just how utterly surprising, or even shocking, each of their roles were on that first Christmas Day.

I made one last year, out of cardboard, cotton wool balls for snow etc. but the roof had to be propped up with twigs. Gdcs asked for it this year but the roof is even worse now. Asked civil engineer (retired) dh to sort it but it was still rubbish. However dd took it anyway and said extremely handy SiL would fix it.
Here's hoping.
Also have to make more donkey poo which I added last year (3 holly berries knitted in brown and stitched together) for 'authenticity' in the stable.
Gdd was only 3 1/2 last year but she remembered the donkey poo and asked where it was!

The figures were bought but the stable is all my own work, using branches from our garden and a hot glue.

How absolutely lovely ladies! Ah but your p-word will be long lasting, certainly not single use! We have a plastic nativity set used for years, like yours no fear of it being broken and not single use. Caused much nativity conversation down the years-especially when they’re all lined up or when baby Jesus goes missing! Oh no-find baby Jesus!

I've now decorated the stable to go with it, it's for sale on eBay number 153756119428 if anyone wants it, all money going to the local hospice at home.

Now I want a nativity!

Witzend you are so clever. That set is beautiful. I bought a wooden set last year because it was cheaper. The home made knitted ones sold on ebay for £40 !

And here's mine, not knitted, just felt and fabric scraps, peg dolls and glue!

The actual knitting was honestly not complicated, silverlining48 - I am only a pretty basic knitter - but the stuffing and sewing up was admittedly fiddly and very time consuming.
The only instruction I wasn't initially sure of was 'make one' (stitch) but there were very clear instructions on how to do it.

It looks great witzend, well done. Wish I could knit something so complicated.

Well, I suppose I knew that acrylic was synthetic - hadn't realised it was actual P-word though.

Too bad, I'm afraid. I needed so many different colours, I couldn't possibly have paid whatever John Lewis (only place selling yarn locally) charges for their nice tasteful pure wool.

I did stuff most of the 2nd set with wool stuffing rather than polyester, though - JL again.

This is it, living on top of the piano before being packed up to go. There were supposed to be 3 sheep but must confess to giving up - I did them last - after two.

@Bradfordlass72 - she probably does know...but as it is a nativity scene, that cancels out the demon bit

I have an Olive wood Nativity from Bethlehem, bought in Bradford however ) in 1969.

Gosh, you are brave to use that word... <looks both ways for eavesdroppers>... 'acrylic' - you do know it's a <whispers> a demon plastic?

Is there a photo? I am also working on a nativity set from scraps, might post when finished, hoping it might sell for charity.
