What Makes a Landscape Beautiful?

Life is what makes any landscape beautiful to me. When I say that I'm not talking wildlife or people set in the landscape but something animate in the scene. I do like a scene that has a creative beholder's share. It doesn't have to figure centrally but if a scene has something to draw the viewer to it then it does tend to appeal to me more. Personally I'm fond of seascapes.

I like to have a sense of timelessness, as if the scene has been unchanged.
Rocks, mountains, waterfalls.

I also like places that bring a sense of calm.

I love timeless desolation like at Spurn Point or high up on the moors.

Trees

I look at landscapes to escape into and not for intellectual challenge. I like watercolours best especially when they are sketchy but skilful.
