Comfort Dolls easy knitting project.

Well! either Im a bit simple or what....have looked at the pattern and looks complicated..maybe because I have never knit anything ..nope not even a cindy doll scarf!

I shall look at some videos as would love to have a go (once I get some needles and wool) forgot to get them whilst shopping today tut!

For double knitting I use 11 as my wool is from the cheap shop so bit thin. You can use a 10 needle. Needles need to be a bit smaller than usual do that the stuffing does not show through the stitches.

Use ‘heirloom crafts comfort dolls’ for a really clear pattern. Also Izzy dolls and. Jean Greenhowe rainbow babies for something slightly different.

Think I will use schnauzels instructions.
Can anyone suggest what size of needles please, starting from scratch and I'm not a knitter thanks.

I did not have a pattern for this, so I copied it from a picture. He is a bit wonky and has webbed feet, but I had fun making him.

I did the animals a while ago for Syrian children in the camps.

They do look like a couple, Gemini. We will have to,ask the Gransnet jury to name them.

You might find this helpful. But the best pattern I have found is on Ravelry ( free to join ) by Esther Joy Braithwaite. She is on Fb too if that is easier for you.

Well that was a very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. Not sure I got all the proportions correct but I will certainly have another go.

These are lovely....the organisation I work for uses "Comfort Dolls", in my area they are given to children giving evidence in serious crimes.
They work wonderfully well.

Mine were quite small, 4" x 2.25", as I wanted them to be toys that could go in a childs pocket. To make, decide what finished size you want, draw on a piece of paper drawing in legs, arms where colours change etc, then double the width. Cut out the shape, do a small tension square if you need to then knit up to match your paper pattern draw wool through stitches at top of head, pull tight then sew down back seam. Stuff and sew across bottom to close. Stitch through all layers tightly to form legs and arms, draw a length of wool through at neck following your drawing, sew on face and hair, step back and admire your work.

I find drawing up an actual size paper pattern is an easy way to design and knit your own items.

littleflo, in the OP there are basic instructions . Just cast on 32 sts and st.st. 50 rows.

I did that, then made it up as I went along, re the finishing off

I haven’t decided yet about the charity.
I started by seeing if I could make a pocket doll that looked like me and one that looked like Grandad so I could send them as a little gift to the grandchildren. I found I wasn’t patient or clever enough to do that so I’m just enjoying using up the scraps and learning to use 2 circulars for a neater job.
