Can anyone please help with what these instructions mean (see pics).

If the first pic means 1 hdc then 2 hdc into the same stitch, why not just say 3 hdc into the same stitch. (Also of so, the next pic is confusing).

*if so

It doesn’t say “same stitch”
Do one hdc in first then 2 hdc in next stitch , you are increasing in different amounts each row
Hope this helps

It's a bit difficult without the context. But I wonder if it means:

First pic: Ch 1, (then hdc in next stitch, then do 2hdc in next stitch) and repeat what is in brackets to end.

Would that make sense with your number of stitches.

Fevertree,
the 5th row = hdc into each stitch, leaving you with 40 stitches in the last row of the circle. Slip stitch into the 1 ch at the beginning of the row.
Does it say in row 2 or 3 that the 1 ch counts as an hdc?

Thank you, everyone - I'm actually asking for my daughter blush - will relay to her and report back.

Thanks again, with your suggestions, she has worked it out. thanks

It may mean 1 hdc in the each next 2 stitches and 2 hdc in the next stitch- a repeat of 4 stitches

It is not very clear, to tell you the truth

Hithere no it isn't. My daughter is very good at crochet, me, not so much. I'm just pleased she could work it out. I think she's making crochet storage baskets, I must ask her smile

For info and interest, daughter conquered the pattern and here's the project now well on its way.

Well done!

Just curious, what was the solution to your question?

fevertree Sun 10-May-20 20:39:19

Hithere, I'll have to ask her - she is not much available for chats at the moment, all I get out of her are quick texts - she works in the NHS and her days are work, eat, sleep, repeat smile and sometimes when I do catch her she will say I'm too tired to talk. Crochet is her relaxation. I will ask though. I really like this basket, am hoping it's for me wink

Hithere Sun 10-May-20 22:14:24

Please don't bother her!

The basket is too cute
