crafting during christmas

Keep myself busy doing patchwork. I do most of my quilts by machine but always like to have some handwork on the go to do when watching tv. At the moment that is a tumbling blocks quilt made by English Paper Piecing method, one day it will be finished. I always mean to use up my stash but it never gets any smaller. I am always a fabric or two short for a quilt so have to go to shop for more. I don't know how it happens but three or four fabrics jump into the basket shouting, "Take us home with you." Thankfully lots of charities are happy to take quilts otherwise I'd need to move to a larger house.

karmalady my craft is still cross stitch. Still addicted to it . My latest piece is on the cross stitch thread. Plus lots of my other pieces. Finally started a kit a friend brought me for my birthday in April . But once into January will put it on hold as I want to make a cushion for my youngest grandson.

My sister in law made this for me . I saw my brother and sister in law yesterday.

My husband asked me to make him a football scarf as he has started to feel the cold. I found a pattern and made it in rib on quite small needles so it took a while but he wore it today for our walk and it looked good.

I've been very twitchy since I finished my last project (a blanket for me) but cbb to finish off UFOS which I've abandoned!

At the moment learning something new seems too much trouble too, so I started making more squares for another blanket with leftover yarn, hoping someone might claim it.

Nowhere near as talented as some of you ladies, but I am busy knitting hats for a homeless charity, I also find knitting really relaxing, particularly when I am not having to follow a pattern

sarnia, knitted swimsuits and pixie hoods and angora muffs and cardigans. The swimsuits stretched in the sea

ladyGracie, yes re relaxing. I always sleep very well after knitting until bedtime. Same when I spin, must be the rhythmic process, clickety clack, like being rocked in a cradle

wildswan16, come back next year and tell us if you managed to use the yarn up or did you browse yarn shops and succumb

I did loads of fine spinning for 2 years, very fine sussex sheeps wool and then I made 3 ply, which was still fine. It had been hanging around for a long time, too pale to make a jumper. I crocheted a blanket and popped it on my bed below a welsh wool blanket. It gives me just the right amount of warmth in bed. It is very fine, I never thought I would finish it but I get tenacious and the but between my teeth

I love sewing and have a humungous stash of fabrics, all sewing stuff is piled up in bedrooms as I am waiting for the decorator to paint my sewing room. Last year I did non-stop sewing all through the christmas season, it was a lifeline and stopped me nibbling treats

Karmalady That sounds like my kind of Christmas, though in my case it would be sewing. But if all the family descend on us on Friday I doubt I will get anywhere near my machine until well into January!

Have a wonderful woolly Christmas!

I shall be knitting as usual, I'm in the process of a jumper for me, back and front done, GD jumper back and sleeves done, sister, cardigan back almost complete. I like a bit of variety.
Knitting has always been my hobby, it helps you to relax, produces amazing results from even simple patterns and a complex pattern produces a well admired result.

I usually sew but have been trying to learn to crochet for about two years. So I'll get my crochet hooks back out and try again ?

I do have a blind to make but it would be nice to have something different to do. And I can't hear the TV when I am using my sewing machine!

My Mum was an avid knitter. As a child I was never short of mittens, vests, scarves, Fair Isle jumpers and cardigans. The downside were the pixie hoods and knitted bathers! Your Christmas sounds lovely and tailored for you. I hope you enjoy every moment.

My resolution for next year is to use up ALL of my wool stash. A lot of it is just bits left over from other projects so will probably be made into a colourful blanket! I am NOT going to buy any more wool until it is all used up.

I too will be keeping myself busy crocheting yet another blanket! This is quite a complicated pattern using Aran yarn which cost more than I usually spend so I’ll be keeping it for my own use rather than giving to a charity.

I always like to have a project at any time of year. I finished my crochet blanket a couple of weeks ago, and yesterday I completed a shawl that I have been crocheting for my sister in law. I've now begun another shawl for my other sister in law. That should keep me busy over Christmas. After the shawl I have an order for a yoga blanket from my DD. She will buy the wool, I only have to make it.
I spend long periods of time on my own as my DH still goes out to work, he does evenings and is out until 9pm.

Sounds lovely. I'll be round Ftiday

I cannot be the only on largely on my own over the christmas/new year. I fully intend to be quietly occupied and do buy myself some presents.

Knitting is my go-to over winter so I have bought myself a couple of kits containing pattern and wool and have prepped myself by watching john arbon youtube videos. It has been so very interesting to learn more about wool breeds etc and the long process of designing and making yarns

I am racing away today, finishing the last sleeve and neckband on recycled yarn, I undid 3 tops called afterlight by amy herzog, ravelry. I so loved those tops and made them in the specified yarn with a slightly raised front V but have lost weight and have re-made smaller. It is endless stocking stitch, the design element is in the style. I am being good and this is my only ufo

I can start a shawl tomorrow and a new jumper after that ufo. The new garments will keep me content, dvd, a few chocs, endless tea, bliss
