? Sewing Bee is back ? next Wednesday with a new presenter.

Gingster Esme doesn't seem quite well this series. Her voice was very firm in previous years. She's a very interesting character.

Casdon Thu 23-Jun-22 07:45:34

I thought it would be Debra going home last night, she did redeem herself a bit with the origami dress, which I didn’t like but could see the work in, but her first two outfits were poor. Annie is so unassuming isn’t she, she underestimates her abilities as she’s excellent.

Gingster Thu 23-Jun-22 07:42:56

Loving Sewing Bee and so pleased all four are in the final. ?.

I thought Brogan would win from the beginning but the others have pulled ahead. Amee (spelling)?is my favourite and she’s improved so much.
Can’t stand the comedian Sara Pascoe - what’s the point of her! Not funny and so cringe making.
Esme is a strange little woman - can’t make her out! No humour and a wavering little voice. A peculiar choice - IMO!

Calendargirl Thu 23-Jun-22 07:39:05

Hmm, I don’t know if it’s best that no one was eliminated. Bit of a cop out really.

Grandmabatty Thu 23-Jun-22 07:34:21

I thought Brogan was going home. So nice to have them all in the final. Annie is quietly overtaking the rest at the moment. It'll be interesting to see who wins.

Chardy Thu 23-Jun-22 07:24:09

Lovely to have all 4 in the final. And they were all so pleased for each other.

I love the programme but I would find it annoying if Sara Pascoe was standing over me with her “witty” remarks.

I also agree about the transformation challenge - who would honestly wear those outfits? Not me!

Love Esme and I will miss the show when it comes to an end.

Esme's autobiography is called 'Behind the Seams'.

Rosie51 Thu 16-Jun-22 18:50:42

I've just finished watching it on iPlayer. I really wished Christian had survived. Despite them saying it's judged purely on each week's performances I do wonder if they were influenced by Brogan's past success. Christian brought more imagination to his clothes, although you have to give it to Brogan she's usually a very neat and accurate sewer. I do think all her garments are a bit 'samey' I'm pretty sure in most of the transformation challenges the judges know exactly which one is Brogan's. I shall have to try and watch next week live, it's been torture trying to avoid spoilers this week!

Joseanne Thu 16-Jun-22 14:32:14

Esme is great. She says it as it is, without being condescending. They all seem to like her.

Parsley3 Thu 16-Jun-22 14:29:50

I had a bet on Brogan being the winner, but after her pyjamas last week and her performance this week I am not so sure.
Has Esme written an autobiography? I bet she has some tales to tell.

Visgir1 Thu 16-Jun-22 13:12:56

This is the first series the winner is not obviouse, they all stand a chance.
Love GBSB, Esme what a Legion!

Rosalyn69 Thu 16-Jun-22 12:46:46

I’m really enjoying this programme. I haven’t watched any of the other series. I think Esme is just fantastic and I loved her outfit last night.

TillyTrotter Thu 16-Jun-22 11:40:42

I did Silvergirl , but they seem friendly enough for her to say that and Christian not to take offence.

Silvergirl Thu 16-Jun-22 11:34:06

Did anyone notice Brogan saying to Christian ‘you’re really close to my face’? I know she had every right to say it but I felt embarrassed for him. He was just looking at her sewing and immediately walked away.

Sorry, M0nica if it seemed, I was correcting you. You'd instigated a thought in my head, and I was interested in finding out the answer. I love old b/w films, and pale pink could look like cream or any pale pastel really on the screen.
My interpretation, when they said 30s evening dress, was slinky, glossy satin in cream or midnight blue.

Same here Chardy, I just had a picture in my head of thirties tea dresses being in pastel colours, no idea where it came from. I’ve looked it up since, and it really was such an elegant era, I can quite see why they chose dresses from then. I almost wish we still dressed like that!

TillyTrotter Thu 16-Jun-22 10:48:55

The remaining sewers (and Christian) are all clever, inventive and skilled. Those sewing machines with over-lockers are not for the fainthearted yet they use them with ease and speed.
The standard of the 1930’s dresses was outstanding in my mind. Just to cut into those luxury fabrics would have been scary but they don’t have time for any nerves!

I accept correction, pink was a 1930s colour, but I still think Brogan's dress was dull and looked like a nightdress. Her sewing is immaculate, but her style runs in one fixed groove.

Chardy Thu 16-Jun-22 08:30:42

This is what I got when I googled '30s pink silk dress'. It's vintage, cut on the bias and looks like a nightdress from
www.alexandra-king.com/products/vintage-1930s-pink-silk-lace-negligee-dress
Not my idea of Ginger Rogers, and I don't like it, but it's authentic.

Grandmabatty Thu 16-Jun-22 08:27:51

I wondered about Esme's outfit too! The colours and patterns seemed to jar against each other. I'm not usually that observant so it must have been bad for me to spot it

Joseanne Thu 16-Jun-22 08:20:32

BlueBelle

Thought Esme s outfit was hideous this week
She must be hard to dress being so little and rather round but the patterns were all wrong imo

For me it was the colours didn't go well together or suit her.

Casdon Thu 16-Jun-22 08:14:48

M0nica

I liked the red and yellow ones, and Christian's, but I did not like the white and pink ones. The white one looked like a wedding dress, and what Brogan thought she was doing making a pink dress, no colour could be less 1930s. It looked like a nightdress.

I agree re Man Yee coming into her own, and wasn’t keen on Brogan’s dress, but think pink was actually a popular colour in the thirties, along with other pale colours? I always associate that era as being a bit washed out in terms of colour for dresses, with the really bright ones like red being more forties. I need to do some more checking I think, but this is typical of the look that’s in my head - this is Bette Davies.

Grandmabatty Thu 16-Jun-22 07:59:11

Sew, not see. Good grief

Grandmabatty Thu 16-Jun-22 07:58:52

I thought Brogan was going home as she didn't see well last night. Her clothes are all very similar in style and Cristian is much more innovative. However what was he thinking by using the wrong material and changing his design at the last minute? I think Man Yee has gradually got better and better. I think she could be the eventual winner.
