Grandmabatty Thu 05-May-22 20:38:19

Bluebell I think you mean Richie. I would have sent him home. His jacket was appalling.

Sarah Pascoe is not coming across at all well is she. No empathy or genuine sense of humour.

BlueBelle Thu 05-May-22 19:09:43

I m not keen on the lady presenter and again like others think the lady with one arm is excellent but surely at such a huge disadvantage especially to be fast l thought the other guy was actually worse than the one that went home sorry haven’t got all the names yet I will by the time the series finishes he was the larger guy and I thought he was pretty useless

Not enjoying Sarah Pascoe. She seems to lack Claudia's charm and Joe's wit, and both of their sense of empathy with the contestants.

I did too Grandmabatty, I would have sent Chichi home, she seemed out of her depth.

Grandmabatty Thu 05-May-22 11:03:44

I thought the wrong person went home last night. I also think that help should have been given to the disabled lady with the ironwear in the trainers. It turned into a trial of strength and that was unfair. She only has one hand.

Well we had something different last night ... trainers!! I certainly wouldn't have been able to do them.

I liked the jackets especially the 'Serena Williams' one.

Everything stops in our house to watch the Sewing Bee. I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode of the new series. Like other GNERs I'd love to be let loose in the fabrics and haberdashery, and I just love that colourful stripy fabric in the opening shots. I must admit I would also like to see them make something other than clothes, perhaps soft toys, bags or a quilt - sewing isn't just about making clothes. You can tell where my interests lie! So that's Wednesday evenings taken care of for the next few weeks.

This is one programs I look forward too. Not sure about the new presenter yet but will keep an open mind.

The Fold Line - the pattern company I have noted above, has also brought out another video of starter patterns as a follow up to Sewing Bee.

Ah, that's the one! Thanks OakDryad

Joseanne There have been several fashion names mentioned on Bee which I'd never heard of - eg. buffet dress, and there was another one describing a dress that apparently 1950s housewives could make in a day ... can't remember what it was called, but I know my Mum never wore one!

Sparklefizz The WalkAway Dress. Here's the episode:

Deedaa I've just reserved that book at the library.

Thanks also DaisyAnne.
I'm off to work out which was the black and white check one, I fancy copying.

Joseanne Fri 29-Apr-22 15:11:04

Thank you Oakdryad. An interesting read.

I'm just reading Esme's book "Behind The Seams" about her life and career. It's great fun, she's always been a one off.

If anyone is interested in what patterns they used in Episode 1 so watch The Great British Sewing Bee 2022 | Sewing Pattern Picks | Episode 1. This company track down all the patterns used.

Joseanne

When did the word "midaxi" come into being to describe the length *Sparklefizz" means? I've never heard it until recently.

You might find this interesting Joseanne.

I thought most of the wrap dresses were too long and, in most cases the fabrics were too light for the length, which is why Mitch's dress worked, even if a little too short.

I preferred the dress with the frill running down its length.

Yes, for those reasons many looked dull and/or like dressing gowns.

^ and thought the garment of the week looked like a summer weight dressing gown I once had.^

I thought exactly the same. Maybe it was because it was a strange length - longer than midi, shorter than maxi.

It has made me feel like making a woollen skirt for next winter. How warm that would be with warm tights. I wish TSB listed their fabric providers. I loved some of that `made in yorkshire` cloth

Calendargirl Thu 28-Apr-22 20:46:00

I thought Esme looked a bit ‘tottery’, and seemed to have aged.

I wonder if she’s had Covid?

M0nica Thu 28-Apr-22 18:20:39

Gin I gave up sewing for a long time because I was not very good at it, even though I enjoyed it, but DD got me started again because as she said, reversing the usual saying 'If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly'

So keep on sewing, you may not be as good as you were, but if you are enjoying it, why stop? I have got back to sewing and it is far from perfect, but I really enjoy it.
