The new series of Sewing Bee is back on Wednesday 24th May ✂️✂️✂️

Wyllow3 Wed 21-Jun-23 22:28:57

I think it was close but who else would you have sent back? Vikki was maybe wobbly.

Loved this week on the ideas side.

Surprise was Fauve who looked like she might go last week...

They hadn't thought carefully enough about what fabric and easy shapes for the appliqué

My favourite garment was the blouse in the transformation by Asmaa. Stunning use of the painting.

Spoiler if you haven't seen this week's programme. Oh dear. Tony has gone home because they didn't like the colours in the skirt, his jacket wasn't adventurous enough (agreed) but his red dress was wonderful? That's unfortunate and harsh.

You can have too much of a good thing, even tote bags and crochet blankets and if someone has so many tote bags, they do not know what to do with them, or is wondering what to do with blankets crochetted and loved by a now defunct relative, this episode did suggest ideas for alternative uses

Better than putting then in the bin.

It was filmed a while ago, last autumn I think, Parsley3

I know, I was thinking of the temperature in the studio. I think they are struggling for recycling ideas. Those bags were perfectly usable as were the blankets so why cut them up? My idea of recycling is to take something that is no longer fit for purpose and make something of it. However, I like the SB and always look forward to another series.

I felt sorry for the models this week. They must have been sweltering in those heavy garments.

Chardy Fri 16-Jun-23 06:57:49

I was disappointed to see Matthew go home, as he's been a shining light for creativity.
I like some of the weirder challenges, the back packs, the trainers last season, but the made-to-measure of cutting up crochet blankers was a ridiculous idea.

Wyllow3 Thu 15-Jun-23 22:11:02

I was sad to see Matthew go, lovely person.

Not my favourite week - I wouldn't wear anything there - tho the pattern challenge did make me feel, ooo, not too difficult to make some summer light trousers. (dont need the side pockets) I've actually got a 1980's pattern to do the job, they are PJ's.

When I saw Mia's idea for her crochet garment I was afraid it was going to be a bit of a mess, but it turned out beautifully. Very smart.

I'm allowed to have an opinion on the programme without being patronised. I like him. He's a character. I'm well aware he hasn't been the best sewer but I'm still allowed to be disappointed he's gone, surely? There's a nastiness on this thread which is also disappointing so I will love you and leave you. Adieu.

M0nica Thu 15-Jun-23 20:39:51

grandmabatty If you know the reason he was going home, there can be no reason for disappointment, as his sewing last night was poor compared with the others. It was inevitable

He was never been among the front runners for the trophy, so his leaving this week or in the next two could be easily forecast.

BlueBelle Thu 15-Jun-23 19:28:02

I was glad he went home I thought he was by far the weakest of the group and mainly there for his ‘quirkiness’
I thought the winner of the week was by far the best looking outfit she did REALLY really well
I thought I d watched it but must have slept through it 😂 so watched it early evening on my iPad

I loved Mia’s garment of the week, thought she deserved to win.

Very 'Chanel'!

"Creative and sparky" are all very well but this is about more than funky ideas and the person who went home had shown a lack of technical skill , judgement and attention to detail more than once.

Grandmabatty Thu 15-Jun-23 14:53:16

I'm aware of the reason for them going home Monica. And for the rules of the competition. It doesn't stop me being disappointed that they left

Callistemon21 Thu 15-Jun-23 14:50:23

I was having palpitations watching then cutting up those crochet blankets, originally made with such love 😲😥

However, garment of the week was very skilful and showed off the crochet very well, the 'Glasto' trouser outfit was typically summer music festival and I liked the chevron culottes too.

Mostly, they did a good job and my palpitations were unnecessary!!

The right decision was made skillwise, but the person will be missed.

Joane123 Thu 15-Jun-23 14:36:49

I thought the garment of the week last night was lovely and can only admire the sewers having to deal with crocheted fabric.

M0nica Thu 15-Jun-23 14:22:47

The person sent home is chosen for the quality of their sewing during each episode.

However creative sparky etc etc, last nights reject was as a person, the quality of their needlework last night was poor, worse than the others, so they went.

Grandmabatty Thu 15-Jun-23 10:43:46

I was disappointed with the decision to choose the person who was picked to go home. A very awkward sentence but I'm trying not to give anything away! I felt they have been very creative and sparky and I've enjoyed seeing their creations. The garment of the week was a bit clunky for me but well made. Some of the made to measure outfits were hideous!

Grammaretto

I agree Wyllow . The poor girl herself looks uncomfortable having to say the awful puns and unfunny blue jokes.

Audiences would fall off perhaps if it was simply informative?

Sarah Pasco’s demeanour is no different on the other shows she’s on, that’s just how she is.

BlueBelle Fri 09-Jun-23 16:55:04

I don’t think Esmas is a smokers voice it’s more like a thyroid sound I don’t even know how to describe it but it’s distinctive
I really think the right person went out this week although I thought her chiffon number looked better than I expected

Grammaretto Fri 09-Jun-23 16:09:04

I guess there's a team of funny people in the background Sparklefizz who write the script.
My DS is a film producer and he tells me these things.

Sparklefizz Fri 09-Jun-23 07:46:22

The poor girl herself looks uncomfortable having to say the awful puns and unfunny blue jokes.

I thought she wrote them herself. Is there a script writer for her?

Millie22 Thu 08-Jun-23 11:59:38

I also miss fabric shops and the choice we used to have.

M0nica
I bet your trousers are lovely.

Last night's made to measure was so good and there were at least four that I thought could be garment of the week. My favourite was Mia's.
