The most stupid mistake I’ve ever made (knitting) 😩

I was finishing my latest Big Fat Ted yesterday when I realised that I’d made one leg bigger than the other! The pattern says 4 or 5 mm needles - I knit it nearly all in 5mm, 2 strands of DK, but had evidently been away with the fairies (or going senile) and had made the first with 4mm so it was appreciably smaller.

However I have managed to stuff one rather more than the other so unless you feel them, I don’t think you could tell.
Phew! I really was not looking forward to knitting another leg - they’re quite big - Big Fat Ted is around 24 inches head to toes.

I could tell you the most stupid mistake I’ve made , but it’s not in knitting 😂

Oops!

I have just had to knit back about 4 inches of a sweater knitted in the round (so hundreds of stitches) because I'd twisted a cable the wrong way and didn't notice. It's maddening - a moment's loss of concentration leads to hours of putting right.

Eeek! How extremely vexing! - as Jane A would have put it.

I have long arms, which vexed my mother no end. When donkey jackets were the in-thing, she knitted cuffs on the ends of my sleeves so the jacket fitted.
One time, she was knitting me a jumper and had bought extra wool knowing she'd have to make the sleeves longer.
We heard her mumbling some curse to herself as she needed yet another ball to finish the 2nd sleeve.
A few minutes later she was heard remonstrating herself, then she fell about laughing. It took us a while to get it out of her, she was laughing so much she had tears running down her cheeks.
Well, the daft old thing had only been knitting a 3rd sleeve!!
She never lived it down.

I have knitted 2 identical fronts for a cardigan instead of a left and right. 🤭

Not the most stupid by a long shot, but the other day I knitted my big fat worry-eating frog’s 2nd ‘arm’ in a smaller size needle than the first. Luckily, with a wee bit of extra stuffing, it doesn’t show.

I haven’t got around to his legs yet, but here he is.
I don’t know why all my worry-eaters end up obese!!

My first attempt at cable knitting was a cardigan for my son who was 1yr old I incoperated a red and blue fairisle border just above the rib, I sewed it together and then realised I had knitted the cable on the front two pieces in the same direction. Plus when I washed it the red & blue bled into the main cream colour so it went pink.

Me too! I never finished it.

I’ve taken to machine knitting quite recently and was attempting my first proper knit with the help of video tutorials. I was doing so well, until I discovered that I had attached the hood part the wrong way round.
Of course, I should just have carried on to finish it regardless, but it landed in the bin as I was sooo annoyed with myself!

That’s known as a UFO (Unfinished Object) Westcoaster - most of us have a few of those!

I'm crocheting squares towards a blanket for charity and realised some I'd made were smaller than most so I must have done a batch on a smaller hook.

So I gently hand washed them in Woolite and did the final rinse with fabric softener then blocked them, pinning and stretching them out gently.
They've dried and stayed the same size as the others. Phew!

Not the worst mistake I've ever made with knitting, sewing or crochet!
