The new series starts on Tuesday 21st May at 9 pm so I'm looking forward to some wonderful sewing again.

The new presenter Kiell is also back to replace Sara Pascoe.

Esme 🍸 😂

Nobody completed the first skirt.

I'm a bit worried about them this year.

Callistemon21 Tue 21-May-24 21:29:28

How long did they have for the first challenge?

I have one eye on that and another struggling with a new pattern.

Farmor15 Tue 21-May-24 21:27:26

I can't believe how bad they all were at first challenge!

Calipso Tue 21-May-24 21:20:52

Oh dear, not started well has it?

Chardy Tue 21-May-24 21:06:12

It's just starting

I liked the idea of the show and loved Patrick and Mary but the next season it was too PC, too samey and people were put on there not for their sewing skills but because they were a bit “alternative”. Never watch it now.

same for me, it is very boring and predictable and not worth watching

I preferred Joe Lycett to Sarah Pascoe, but Claudia was the best so far I think. I’d like Sara Cox to do it, she was a natural on Great Pottery Throwdown, very natural.

Tonight!

Looking forward to this! Claudia was the best presenter - because that's her job, being a presenter. A little bit of humour now and then, very self-deprecating and empathetic.

I agree with others - a comedian isn't a natural presenter, Sarah I tolerated but I thought Joe Lycett's massive ego overshadowed the whole programme - all that dressing up and throwing himself about along with the constant double entendres and innuendos really spoilt it for me. Not the programme for it.

And I'm guessing that Patrick has been asked, and turned down, Strictly. He seems an obvious choice and Esme as well now we've all got to know her.

Thanks for this, looking forward to watching it.
I think Kiell Smith-Bynoe took part in the 2021 Celebrity Sewing Bee. I prefer him to Sara Pascoe.

Oooh, thanks for the reminder. I too really enjoy the Sewing Bee even though my sewing skills are limited. It took me a year at school to finish an apron!!!!

Calendargirl

Not sure why the host always has to be ‘funny’.

A bit of humour here and there, but no need for so called ‘comedians’ dressing up and being daft.

No, it detracts from the point of the programme.

I'm looking forward to it and absolutely love it.
Nice gentle programme with no nastiness and lots of talent.
I shall be away for the first two weeks but the lovely BBC Iplayer will look after it until I get back.

BlueBelle Sat 11-May-24 06:57:21

I ve never heard of the man so will watch with an open mind
I do love the idea of the programme but I wish they would change it round a bit as it becomes SO predicable

I don’t sew, but I do really enjoy watching this programme and the very talented contestants. I’m looking forward to the new series.

I had to Google him

Yes, I know who he is now, he was the husband in Ghosts 🙂

Kiell is a very funny man. 😂

Deedaa Fri 10-May-24 19:35:20

We've had some diverse people on but they've all been very talented. I couldn't take to Sarah - she was far too "Look at me being funny" Looking forward to seeing Patrick and Esme again.

Kiell Smith-Bynoewas on House of Games a while back. He seemed very personable.

Parsley3 Fri 10-May-24 17:51:04

I love the sewing bee. Thanks for the heads up.

Calendargirl Fri 10-May-24 17:48:18

My needlework teacher said on my report “Calendargirl must learn to work and not talk in a practical lesson”

An accurate statement.

RIP Mrs Brown.

Hated sewing, still struggle to sew on a button.

I wasn't Sara Pascoe's biggest fan so I don't mind a change as long as they leave Esme and Patrick alone. I still remember the teacher who taught me needlework at Grammar School. My needle invariably disappeared down the cracks of the parquet flooring and she once told me, in front of the whole class, that I held my needle like a cow with a poker. I wonder if teachers would get away with that these days. grin
