The new series starts on Tuesday 21st May at 9 pm so I'm looking forward to some wonderful sewing again.

The new presenter Kiell is also back to replace Sara Pascoe.

M0nica I think most serious sewers decided several series ago that the show is more about entertainment than sewing and wouldn't apply to go on it.
Like others here I don't think any of this years contestants stands out and last night's efforts were particularly uninspiring.
I'm also distracted by the 2 ladies who sew whilst wearing voluminous outfits - surely they must get in the way!
(And yes I do sew myself but I'd rather do things properly than fast)

the tasks actually set do not seem that difficult, certainly no more difficult than previous years, so it must be the skill level of those being selected that is at fault. I am sure the contry hasn't run out of really competent sewers.

I know that the main purpose of all these shows in entertainment, but I want to watch someone with a really remarkable skill well ahead of mine. i do not want to be watching the programme, thinking, 'for heavens sake, even I could have done better than that!'

I agree about the scramble for the fabric.

They all look so pally, but surely sometimes Mary has grabbed the very piece that Jane wanted…..

I love watching it and look forward to Tuesday night.

There is not nearly enough time to plan and finish so there is an element of luck.

The scramble for the right fabric at the start would terrify me. Also making a garment to fit the model is a skill in itself.

I haven't watched this series at all, I thought the last one was pretty bad, the sewing dreadful in most cases. Sounds as if it's even worse this time.

Gingster Wed 12-Jun-24 08:02:41

I’ve stopped watching it too. It’s run it’s course imo.

BlueBelle Wed 12-Jun-24 07:59:44

Gosh I thought the outfits were poor last night in fact I d go further than poor some were awful The older gents were no worse than some of the others but I think they targeted him to go out Though most of them were really quite bad ( and that’s from someone who can’t sew for toffee)

Grandmabatty Wed 12-Jun-24 07:53:20

I was pretty disappointed by the sewing last night. I speak as a non sewer, mind you.☺️ I thought Luke's outfit, in particular, was hideous. They all seem to struggle with finishing a garment. I totally agree with you MOnica

petra Wed 12-Jun-24 07:52:30

Totally agree, MOnica
I stopped watching last week.
Sad to say but the producers have run out of ideas. Plus the standard of sewing.

M0nica Wed 12-Jun-24 07:47:45

Am I the only person finding the Sewing Bee a bit lacklustre this year?

The standard of needlework is well below the standard we have become used to in previous years, so many incomplete garments.

We have no outstandingly good sewers this year and last night's final round, which usually produces consistently beautiful well made clothes resulted in some garments looking more like the clothes usually cobbled together in the second round and last night, if the results of the second and thirs round were mixed together it would be difficult to tell which garment belonged in which round.

The dresses made from tablecloths reminded me of a dress I made back in 1968. It had been a cover for a garment on a hanger. The fabric was a faded floral pattern probably dating back to the 30s. I made a simple smock dress which I wore on holiday in Ibiza. The faded pinks and browns fitted the landscape perfectly.

I've found this again, so enjoyable.

I love this idea for a bag.

Fantastic show and the best on TV. I love it.

For anyone interested sewessential.co.uk does a weekly blog about the Bee which includes links to patterns either the same as or similar to those used

I do so love the sewing bea thank you for the heads up. when I was a young trainee nursery nurse it was part of my course to sew a wee dress with smocking and if I say so myself it was a beautiful dress.

I’m impressed by the trousers without a side seam, can’t help but wonder if they cling to the side of the leg though, only one way to find out.
I think Sarah Pascoe was not a good presenter, find her irritating and not funny, but that’s probably me. I like a presenter who lets the contestants shine.
The lady that didn’t listen to instructions deserved to go, I did think that short dress she made was cut beautifully and looked stylish but not for the Riviera perhaps. It’s ok to be a bit dizzy at times but not when the object of the show is to be creative but within the rules or everyone would be off at a tangent.

She seemed reluctant to use another tablecloth to finish the garment, thought it was a ‘waste’.

I found her annoying, she thought she was quite risqué and daring, with her nude picture of her and her partner.

TMI.

Yes, DanniRae, I'm glad the "naughty woman" went home. She was very irritating.

DanniRae Fri 07-Jun-24 07:17:42

I agree that 'those' trousers were amazing but for me I preferred the navy trousers with the buttons on the front. So smart!
I am glad that the naughty woman went home ........ how annoying was she? hmm

Grammaretto Thu 06-Jun-24 21:41:59

I was browsing shops today in a mall and all the outfits seemed be straight out of Sewing Bee. Particularly the trousers in Next which looked like tablecloths and Brigitte Bardot off the shoulder blouses.

Millie22 Thu 06-Jun-24 21:34:11

I absolutely loved those trousers and they were a well deserved garment of the week.

shysal Wed 05-Jun-24 11:22:50

I have some tablecloths, embroidered by myself and my grandmother, which never see the light of day. I am wondering whether to get sewing!
