Not sure if this comes under the arts bit but bear with me please...

I used to be a keen camera photographer but stopped for no particular reason. Recently I've been using the camera on my mobile, happy with the results etc but want to do something other than leave the pictures on my devices (thanks to Google they're everywhere). So my question is what do you do with your photos these days?

Our 16 year old granddaughter is an excellent photographer, she has has just taken her GCSE in photography.

I have a lot of boxes family photos many going back to the early days of photography.

I think delete the boring ones first!
grin
After all you'd never pick them out to see again...

My problem is all the videos and photos of the gc which dd regularly sends me every time they do an activity which is lovely. However I now have rather a large number of them and find it difficult to delete them although I don’t look at past ones very often.

Can you search by word "hat" for example? Or her name?

Thank you. I will try that. 👍

I try and keep mine on my laptop on the iCloud.

I spent most of last Thurs looking for a photo a friend sent me either on my phone or computer. I cannot find it but I would never have deleted it. She died recently and when she was having chemo I crocheted her a hat when she lost her hair. She was pleased with the hat and sent a lovely pic of her wearing it and doing a thumbs up. I wish I could find it.

I have a photostick which is a memory stick for photos. You plug it into your computer’s USB port and it copies all of your photos deleting duplicates, and will store 3,000 photos.

Photobox is about to do a relaunch as they have been working on a new (improved) programme, apparently.

I totally agree Judy and 45 free per month is so easy I love all my albums mine, my kids, my grandkids, even done my own wild flower album it’s fun

JudyBloom Sat 18-May-24 21:09:38

I print lots of photos out and frame them and I still put them in real albums, alongside having them online, there's just something special about them being tangible.

What I like is this way doesn’t cost anything! Just printing off any especially good ones (family, natch).
Remember the days of Kodak film and getting the photos developed, days later? Smudged images, headless folk - all had to be paid for.

We have one of those digital slideshow things with all our photos on. Just load them onto a USB stick and plug it in. The slideshow displays a random photo every minute or so - you can set it to display for whatever time you want, and do it either randomly or in different orders. Our holiday photos and family photos are all on there.

Camera phones make the (not) nonsense photo so easy grin but really, that's a memory particular to you! I feel capturing moments now to be important as a reminder ... please keep on snapping Urmstongran

I take nonsense photos. This was from this afternoon in the bar below us.
😁

Goodness, I’ve just checked my iPad. I’ve taken all photos on it since Oct 2014 when I took early retirement. My fist photo is of my late mum. Outside the caravan she and my stepdad used to have 🥰

And I was astonished to see I have 5,406 photos.
And 106 videos.

I display them on Alexa show. I have one in the kitchen and one by the bed.

I use freeprints( has a butterfly on emblem) and you get 45 free prints a month and only have to pay postage which is only a few pounds. You can also make books, coasters jigsaws, mugs etc through them. I have had quite a few books made up and am very pleased with them. My daughter uses that site also

crazyH Sat 18-May-24 19:52:32

I used Photobox, but they say Snapfish is the cheapest and the best

Any photo book site recommendations please?

M0nica Sat 18-May-24 19:25:00

I prune them drastically, not long after taking them and store on my computer.

BlueBelle Sat 18-May-24 19:22:37

I print them using the 45 prints free every month and put them in slide in photo albums I love looking through them and so do my adult grandkids when they visit they make a beeline for my dozens and dozens of albums

Litterpicker Sat 18-May-24 19:20:45

Photobooks (online) seem to be the best option. I think there was a thread on these a while back. You can select your photos, arrange them and add text. Then you have an electronic record and the photo book company will print as many copies as you want (or are willing to pay for!). I keep meaning to do some but have been lazy 🙂

crazyH Sat 18-May-24 19:17:01

I have a couple of photo books, but there’s more that needs to be sorted. I’ve also transferred most of them to the Laptop.
