New crafts to get into .

I yearn to ‘do something’ but what do you do with what you produce? I like functional items and don’t have any ornaments, cushions or ‘bits’ around the house. That’s my dilemma.

That’s why all my knitting goes (via Knit for Nowt) to where it’s genuinely wanted and very much appreciated.

I did once knit a few jumpers for the Gdcs, but the other granny is better at jumpers than I am!

In the past I’ve made Nativity Sets for the Gdcs’ and for their school 🎄raffles, but after 5 or 6 I’m giving it a rest this year!

I remember making plaster of Paris ornaments with moulds when I was a child, then painting and varnishing them.

They got given to all my aunts and friends for presents. 😃
They probably thought "oh, not another one!"

Then there was the French knitting, tubes of knitting turned into mats for all and sundry.
At least we weren't on mobile phones all the time.

Jaxjacky I make my cross stitching into pictures ,bags,coasters,badges,bookmarks ,cards and cushions . Have in the past repaired a tear in a skirt with a cross stitch patch .

If I am honest, I take a photo of it and keep it for a few months and then bin it and produce the next item. I've got a folder on my lap top called craft and the photo goes in there.

Allira , I had the same problem with needle felting. The cost of sticking plasters was a budgeting nightmare.

We did make a necklace between us one week at U3A, under instruction, but whether it was bloodstained or not I don't know!

I can knit,crochet but I fancy something new.
I have to add that I am left handed!!!!

Sometimes weekly or monthly craft magazines in WH Smith or other outlets have a "free" sample of a craft item to try.

Cross stitch ? Cheap, portable, and great for home made cards.

I must get back to cross stitch, was never very good at it but then bought a couple of kits (ambitiously) which I've never attempted.

I tried felting once at U3A but ended up stabbing myself rather a lot.
My DN is excellent at felting and makes wonderful little animals and birds.

I'm not patient enough but a good friend of mine does quilling...

I like paint by numbers in oil. Now my eyesight has improved due to cataract removal I shall give it a go.

Lovely news for you. My MIL did one years ago and we found it in a chest the other day. It is beautifully done and such a tribute to her. It is going on the wall now.

Are you a member of the WI? Check out the WI Learning hub on line. If you are a member you can get your courses free. If you are not a member, they usually charge a fiver. I also came across a Button art FB page which looked really good which I think I will try.

Needle felting is fun, I made a robin, nice and small on my mantlepiece.

Cross stitch is ideal if you want to relax and like a slower pace . It's amazing how little crosses can make beautiful things. I am addicted to it .

But I started at gel printing class 7 weeks ago and love it but I daren't do it at home as I couldn't do it watching TV. It's fun and we encourage eachother other as I take my class at the Brain Charity.

Both cross stitch and gel printing is ideal if you have problems with your hands and co ordination. I had to stop knitting 30 years ago as I couldn't handle both needles . Didn't like crochet.

A friend of mine does silk painting and produces the most beautiful pictures.

My sister in law crochets but things like toys . She has MS but her passion is needle felting but she's very talented how she can take some wool and make it into something beautiful amazes me.

I have never tried it .

Embroidery - I find it really relaxing .

I haven't done it for some years (!) , but in repairing a favourite dress with a rip in it -I discovered that I enjoy sewing seed beads into designs .
I disguised some moth holes in an expensive twin set for a friend - so it has had a practical and economical use .

How about something that isn’t a kit?. Collage…..using your own ideas and materials. Anything you can collect…paper, material scraps of all sorts.

How about tapestry? There are some lovely kits .
