Help needed with knitting

If I understand this correctly, you will end up with what looks like a wrong side row on the right side, and will have rib lined up on ether side of this, So if you've been starting rib rows with purl stitches, continue to do so after the turning row.

What sort of hat are you knitting?

A seed stitch hat on straight needles. I got the pattern from All free knitting.

I agree with doodledog. It sounds as if the ‘K across’ row is to demarcate the brim. So you want the hat pattern to be in keeping with the brim.

I find it annoying when patterns aren’t specific!

If you are turning the brim 'inside out' you may find that the ribs don't line up, if you see what I mean, as the wrong side will become the right side.

I agree with Retread that badly written patterns are annoying . I think you are going to have to work an inch or two and see what it looks like. It might not matter if the brim rib doesn't line up, or you might have to bite the bullet and pull it out.

If you can take a photo of the pattern, preferably with a picture of the hat, we can take a closer look for you. Or if it's on Ravelry, link us up.

Thanks for your advice, I went with a purl stitch so the ribbing lines up perfectly . Unfortunately I can't make any sense of the shaping of the crown part of the pattern. Are you still knitting rib here, or what?

If you knitted a purl stitch together with a plain stich, I would try starting with purl afterwards. If on the other hand you knitted a plain stich with a purl, start with plain - otherwise you will be skewing the rib.
