Stupidest ‘crafty’ thing you’ve ever done…

I made a large papier mache bird on a wire frame and laughed so much at the result that I made a new friend who remained a friend for years until she died..

lixy, I got a C+ for doing virtually all of dd1’s dreaded cookery apron. Plus the comment, ‘Neatness and accuracy are 2 skills which you must practice (sic).’ 😂

Meant to say it was the stupidest crafty thing I’ve ever done because he still brings his buttons to be sewn on here. One day I’ll get him to sit still long enough to show him that it’s not rocket science.

DS had to make a cushion cover for his year 8 DT project. Of course it was the night before it was due in before he started it. So, not willing to teach him how to use my sewing machine on a Sunday evening, I did the sewing machine bit. I got a ‘D+’. He maintains the + was due to his meticulous cutting out!

My dd1 is the same, or rather, she comes out in a sweat at the mere thought of needing to thread a needle. 😂
If she could ever even find such a thing, that is…

I went to a needle felting group once and all the ladies were busy punching away at their robins and producing some beautiful birds. I was busy punching away at my fingers and my poor bird looked as if it had already seen its last. Never again!

MissA sewing to your skirt 😁. You would have gotten on well with my husband. He did come out with the weird/ funniest things plus he was a klutz . Not meaning you are a klutz .

At primary school we had to knit a pencil case. Mine was held up as an example of how bad some knitting could be. I was so humiliated and threw it in a bin on the way home. I've never picked up knitting needles in the following 60 years but I crochet things.

My mum used to do any sewing I needed.
Taking curtains up, down, back up again!
It was quite sobering to realise I'd have to do it myself once she died.

And that Miss A is exactly why I don’t venture into much more than sewing on a button… and even that can, and has, gone terribly wrong in just the way you describe!

I loved when he said to you "Typical, now I'm dying I start winning things".

My husband went out in 2 black shoes unfortunately they where different styles it wasn't until he got home I pointed it out . In his defence it was 5am on a winters morning.

So I don't think any child would have noticed the different colours Witzend.

I once knitted two fronts the same for a cardigan, luckily a small one, not adult size.

I worked in a place with just four service users/customers/residents, or whatever the current term is.

I got a bee in my bonnet about their names being written in marker pen, on their clothes labels.

My idea was threads of cotton stitched into the labels; blue for one person, yellow for another and so on.

I sat stitching a big pile of items, socks, pants and other small things one evening.

When I got up, I realised I'd sewn them all onto my skirt.

In the early 1970s we had rampant inflation, worse than the recent one. We had a toddler and a baby, four mouths to feed, one salary coming in, so any new clothes were home-made.
I bought some fabric for a dress for me in the market, cut it all out and then realised that I'd cut out two sleeves the same, wide medieval-style, a lot of fabric. Fortunately I was able to get another yard or so but having to spend the extra money was painful.

I hated sewing lessons with a passion. Our teacher Mrs,p. Taylor (true) was a bit of a tartar which didn’t help my lack of confidence in the subject. After completing the obligatory gingham apron to be used in domestic science, it then had to be embroidered along the top edge. Only then could a choice be made about ‘what to sew’. This was 1968. I decided on a brown corduroy skirt (natch). Chose a pattern. Buttermilk? Buttercup? Some such name. Anyway I laid the material on the pattern, pinned it in place, used my brand new sharp scissors (all the bluddy sewing stuff, tape measure, pins, etc cost my poor mother more than buying a skirt in C&A!) and sewed it up over several weeks worth of lessons … to realise corduroy has a ‘nap’ (who knew? I wasn’t shown) so the front of the skirt smoothed downwards and the back of the skirt ended up smoothing upwards! 😱
The skirt went in the bin at home.
I’ve never attempted to sew anything ever since.

I've done so many daft things it's hard to choose, but probably when I hot glued my hair into the paper flower wreath I was making.

Then there was the beautiful scarf I crocheted (the first 'real' usable thing I'd ever crocheted) that was so long it reached Mr A's feet even when wrapped twice around his neck and had to be unpicked and recrocheted. It's never as much fun doing things the second time.

Long ago I was doing Needlewoman badge in Guides. One of the tasks was to make a garment completely by hand. I hated hand-sewing, but wanted the badge, so decided to make a dress for a baby- small, so less sewing! I was getting on well, had done the main part and just made the 2 puffed sleeves, and decided to show my mother, who was in the garden. Somehow, one of the sleeves got lost and couldn't be found, so I had to make another. Of course, when the dress was finished, the sleeve turned up - always thought it must have been the only baby dress with a spare sleeve!

That did occur to me, whywhywhy, but the charity I knit for does also supply ‘disability’ worry-eaters, so they do prefer the animal ones to be ‘ordinary’.

I think it looks great and also highlights that we are all different in some shape or form. I have a degree of autism and get very anxious at times. Thank you for sharing but I would leave it that way.
