Took my sewing machine out of hibernation…

I use mine constantly. It is a Janome and has been a great comfort since DH died.
I have made all sorts of things for myself, the children and GCs, especially when DGD2 had a frame for lengthening her leg. It had a circumference of 1m. Try putting knickers with that! Lots of knicker adaptations and trousers with wide legs.
Now, I dressmake little, but use it regularly for my patchwork and appliqué.

I used to make clothes for the children and myself and enjoyed doing this. I bought a Swiss Bernina sewing machine which was expensive and I loved it. However that was years ago and it sits inside a cupboard waiting for someone in the family to need it. It must need some kind of a service and if I got it out I doubt I would remember how to set it up or use it.

At primary school we children had sewing lessons, which I loved. We also had knitting lessons, which I couldn't do for toffee!! Our work had to be put in a trunk until the next lesson, but I smuggled my ridiculous
wooly -knitted camel out in my big grey pants & took it home so my lovely mum. She would help me to complete it; learning as we went & I smuggled it back the next Tuesday, ready for the lesson. I still love sewing & I can now knit too. 😺

I think I'm an old dog not willing to learn new tricks!

A regret of mine is not learning to use a machine, other than the very few lessons in home economics class. I now think a basic machine and lessons should be a staple in any household. It would have paid for itself in tailor costs and basic curtains or costumes.

Good for you; your top turned out nicely.

Well done.
I don't make any clothes now but do have some that need altering.

Mine got dusted the other day, its sitting in its case in a corner of the dining room.

Hadn’t used it for ages, but the other day I was about to take this linen tunic to the charity shop, when it occurred to me to shorten the sleeves. They were full length, with buttoned cuffs and buttoned tabs for fastening them back if desired.
But I didn’t ever desire, and TBH I found the buttons a fiddly PITA, so hadn’t worn it for ages.

But lo, an hour with my 40 year old sewing machine and an iron!
