I've been a busy Sewing Bee in 2024

Ever since I rekindled my love of sewing in 2015, I've been keeping a spreadsheet of all my makes each year. I occasionally make items for others, but the huge majority are just for me.

Upon finally completing the matching skirt and top today, I've totted up my 2024 makes and it's 34 in total. Here we go:
11 dresses
11 tops
4 skirts
2 coats/jackets
1 trousers
1 top for DH, 4 items for new GS and 3 for GD

Last year it was 19 and in 2022 14, so I've been inspired this year. You can well imagine that our wardrobes are chockablock, especially as my clothes hardly ever wear out and I don't change size. I also don't follow trends, but make what I love. I just love to be creative.

Well done twinnytwin!

Like you, I began to sew again a few years ago in 2019 beginning with a simple dress for my then 7 year old granddaughter. Since then I've sewn almost every day for a couple of hours. Sometimes I just try out new techniques on scraps of fabric or run up a basic tote bag/makeup bag and donate to the charity shop. But you have inspired me to work out what I have made this year. Totals are (from what I could see in my drawers/wardrobe and what I could remember):

For myself:

4 sweatshirts
5 tunic tops
5 pairs of trousers
4 blouses
4 summer tunic style/cocoon style dresses
4 T shirts
2 coats

For my new granddaughter (now 22 months old)

5 pairs of dungarees
4 romper suits
2 cardigans
1 dressing gown
3 pairs of pyjamas
6 dresses
4 T shirts
3 pairs of leggings
2 pairs of bootee slippers

When I look at the list, I do wonder if I am becoming obsessed! The upside is that I have donated lots of stuff I had kept for donkey's years that I was hanging onto (even though it was an impulse purchase that didn't fit properly!) to the local charity shops so my wardrobes aren't bulging with little-worn clothes any more. The clothes I have made for myself I wear constantly and those I have made for the little one are soon grown out of and passed on to my daughter's friends' children.

More importantly, I love sewing and it gives me so much pleasure and a sense of achievement every time I complete a project!

AskAlice You have indeed been busy too. My twin sister also is a manic sewer and we love to talk sewing whenever we get together.

I thought I was finished for 2024 but yesterday I cut out another skirt. I also found a summer dress from Joules that's dated June 2014 in the back of the cupboard. Slipped it on this morning, and it fits fine. It's maxi length so I'll make it shorter so that I get more wear out of it. So useful being able to sew.

That sounds so like my Mum. She got such pleasure from sewing and when we kids moved out she turned the middle bedroom into a sewing room. She spent many happy hours up there mending, altering or making new items.

She used to say to me that she hated having to break off to cook the evening meal.

Hi Primrose. I'm lucky enough to have a sewing room (bedroom 4) too. I'm sat in in at the moment. I'm also lucky enough to have a DH who will take his turn at cooking.
I also cross stitch, embroider or knit when sat in front of the tv and do water colour painting when I have a spare moment!
Righto, back to finishing off my skirt.

I also converted a small bedroom into a sewing room when my older GC no longer needed it for naps/overnight stays occasionally. Lo and behold DD2 presented us with a delightful GD as an "older mum" so now the cutting table is folded away and the room used for GD's travel cot when they come to us. I don't begrudge that one little bit, but it is nice when I can have my space back for myself!

We've had her for a few nights after Christmas and I'm looking forward to starting some new projects with the sewing books and patterns I got for Christmas grin
