Applique - HELP!

I have been making a small wall hanging from appliqué by adding smaller pieces onto a landscape. I had put batting behind the front fabric but now I need to attached some backing to cover all the stitches. Has anyone done this? How did you do it? And what did you use please?

Do you mean a solid backing so that it hangs stiffly as a plaque or a flexible backing so that it keeps a softer outline and hanging?

I just used curtain lining fabric, I didn’t want it stiffened.

I left it alone for a few hours and then had an idea which I think will resolve the problem.

I had already tried 'making the sandwich' and attaching the binding but the fabric I had selected was 'creeping' and didn't look right. I have now worked out how to finish it and thank you GNetters for your comments.
