Thanks everyone. I'll experiment with some scraps of fabric

I have got some Fray Stop but only use it for buttonholes before cutting them through. I would think that it would be a bit of a faff to go round every cut edge with the little nozzle! If the fabric I am using is particularly prone to fraying, I use a zig-zag stitch to finish the (trimmed) seams either together and pressed to one side or individually and pressed open.

I did make a coat using boucle fabric once, and finished all the edges with zig-zag stitch and an overlocker presser foot ( I don't have an overlocker machine) after I had cut them out and before sewing anything together. That seemed to work well.

Spray starch ?

I would use a 2-thread overlock stitch to stop linen fraying.

How about machining a stay stitch row along the edge of the material before sewing the seams?

I'd do this to avoid adding bulk, or slightly zig zag the edges, making sure not to stretch the fabric.

Do you do French seams?

I know how to do french seams but have only used them on fabric that is more lightweight than linen

Is it difficult to work with?
I haven't found that with linen.

Not so much "difficult" but I do find it frays as I sew the seams

Has anyone used Spray Stop? I am going to make a linen dress and unlined jacket. I will finish the seams after sewing but wondered if Fray Stop would make the fabric easier to work with.
I am concerned that the Fray Stop would make the fabric very stiff or discolour it.
