Socks for my take-out knitting and indoors a large-size gansey
The wool for the gansey is on cones, frangipani in damson, it is lovely wool, very warm but needs something underneath when wearing ie shirt or shirt
The socks are generally vanilla socks with perhaps ribbing, always top-down for me and worked on a combination of circular needles and dpns when turning the heel and shaping the toe

"What is on your needles?"
A sofa cover!! 😂
(I jest)
Half a nurse hand puppet, eventually destined for Knit for Nowt.
My grandson's Christmas present is finished 🙂
Modelled here by a smaller baby doll.
Sar53 that is a lovely hat
Almost finished the first pair of socks, it really is enjoyable to be knitting all these socks in the same simple design
I have ordered a very special yarn and it won`t be going into stash. It is called `can`t I`m swamped 4 ply,` it was a one-off hand dye by the wee yarn company on a John Arbon blend
I am going to make the Breslin gansey for myself, I have made this pattern in the past, it is a looser gauge than the last gansey and much smaller. I loved that jumper but made it in loosely spun merino and it eventually wore out. After the socks, this will be my next knit project, nice during the Christmas break too
I am loving the knitting mojo, love that it comes back every year for the colder months
I am experimenting by combining two knitting patterns. I have a pattern for a 4-ply jumper but wanted it in double knitting, so I've put two patterns together. So far it's looking ok, but won't know for sure until it's finished.
I am knitting a cushion cover in aran pattern just now.I used to knit aran jumpers but the price of good aran wool has jumped up so much I stick to small things now.
The price of good wool for all larger items is the same.I cannot afford to knit jumpers anymore, so knit smaller items like tea cosies etc.
karmalady
Gansey is finished, wash and blocked on a jumper board. That made all the difference and it is perfect to measurements. I put pics on the good morning thread wednesday 29th october
I now have socks on dpns, stocking stitch, vanilla with a normal heel, I did not like the boomerang heel. 6 ply reggia for a size 12 foot. All my family are getting hand made socks for Christmas, weeks of easy knitting ahead and on my 3mm dpns so I don`t get thumb ache. Seeknit again, I bought a full set of dpns, to protect my fingers
I’m sure it will be very much loved karmalady.👏
When I was a child there was an elderly man down the road who knitted ganseys and most of the men in our coastal village wore them. They are still worn by local men with a connection to the sea at funerals. They are dark navy worn with dark trousers and look very smart.

PurplePixie I love that colourful top
Ladygaga I have an Arnos and Crlos book with instructions for Christmas baubles, would be good for my leftovers
Lovemylife I used to have two brother knitting machines, punchcard with all the extras including ribbers. Those machines enabled me to clothe my family, including a dress for me. In the end I gave them to a Welsh hospice, hoping that people could use them to make things to sell for funds
I am about to start some more socks using reggia 6 ply, will be frogging the ribbed version as it is be too sloppy. I found another very comprehensive set of instructions on ravelry for 4 6 and 8 ply sock yarns and I have needed to order some seeknit dpns, my old ones are Karbonz and they stab me. I could use tiny circulars, might do so for the main parts but they aren`t so good for my thumb joint
I do like a small project as well as something large
Little fluffy snowman ornaments for my Christmas tree, with different coloured hats and scarfs. I set myself a task to decorate my tree with handmade baubles. I’ve also been embroidering - little ornaments with modern Christmas motifs. Very easy and relaxing to embroider but a right old fiddly faff to stick and sew to make them into baubles. My tree might look lovely, or it might look like something left over from Miss Haversham! Never mind, I’m enjoying myself 😂
My knitting machine gave up years ago but I still have a stash of 4ply cones to get through. Currently knitting a stripy jumper for GS. In the round as I hate sewing up.
I used to do a lot of knitting. I made all the children’s cardigans, jumpers, hats and things for OH too. Now my thumbs are sometimes quite painful with arthritis, not so much. I’ve been knitting myself a tunic for over a year…
The gansey for DS is almost finished, just the last sleeve now and I have to pick up 116 stitches around the armhole, on size 2 circulars.
It is so difficult to make an accurate complicated jumper without the person being nearby, DS is in Scotland and I have had to ask him many times for various measurements. The most tricky is sleeve length. I have measured my knit, over and over and even steam-pressed the pattern that goes down the sleeve. It needed to be 83 cm from the neck and the sleeve is exactly that
Sleeve 2 starts today and meantime I have downloaded a pattern called sleeve-less by Hyggestrik. My next knit, for me first in yarn from my stash and then I will make one to send to Scotland for DSs OH who is not very well
Patra I have enjoyed making the gansey and DS is wildly excited, he can see the work and love that has gone into it
I will be washing it in my w/m with special woolwash, a miele. The handwash/wool programme is very gentle, I have even washed hand-spun merino in it. I cannot be doing with hand washing that heavy gansey in the sink an rolling in towels etc
Not knitting needles but on my crochet hook, reindeer poo for the school Christmas fete. 💩
I should be more specific- I stitch them.together with a wool needle and wool, rather than crochet.
I use the following method to join my granny squares - firstly I give them a light blast of steam with a handheld steamer to "block" them. Then with right sides together, starting on RH side, pick up the back (last) loop of the V of the stitch and go back and forth from one to.the other. Makes an invisible seam.
My daughter crochets hers together. There are lots of 'how to" videos on YouTube.
I have a Boomerang scarf, so comfy to wear with the drape
I’ve been watching a YouTube video and have learned to crochet a daisy granny square. Have made 12 squares so far . Next step is to work out how to crochet them together to make a blanket .
A Sleverine Harry Potter scarf that a friend got stuck on so I offered to do it.
I can only crochet and am currently joining chunky granny squares in 3 colours to make a blanket/knee rug which will hopefully be sold at a stall we have at a Christmas Fair. My sisters, who both make knitted garments, and I do a stall every year and the money raised goes to Macmillan.
On the dining room table at the moment I have a layout of crochet hexagons in shades of cream, peach and pink to make another child's size blanket. Need to find a nice joining method for that one.
When these are done I need to get back to finishing a cardigan for myself. It's in a lovely bamboo mix yarn in navy, cream and sage.
I always like a to have a couple of projects on the go, especially something easy for when I'm watching tv.
Can I suggest, for anyone wishing to knit/crochet/sew for charity, that there will be a Linus group near you (hopefully) who are always looking for blankets/quilts for children/young adults ages 0-18. Our local group appreciates donations of completed items or suitable wool/fabric . Their website will have info on groups and also has patterns for knitting/crochet and sewn blankets/quilts.

Poppies for our lovely village remembrance display ❤️
That a nice pattern, BladeAnnie
Probably the best one I've seen, which one is it?
What needles? Knitted a scarf for my Teddy decades ago…that was enough for me!
