You could try a lamp with a daylight bulb.

That's what I use. I have a floor-standing one with a magnifier and a daylight bulb, and it gets used a lot. I've had it since the 1980s, so it doesn't owe me a penny. It has come in handy for seeing splinters in little fingers and countless other uses as well as for knitting and sewing.

I know to never attempt anything to do with black - be it yarn or wool - in artificial light! Daytime only and sitting by a window.

I'm really struggling to knit a cardi in black yarn in the evening or gloomy days. Anyone ideas how to do this or do I have to just do it during the day.
