Baby blanket

Cotton for hot climate sounds a good choice. I have done one with 'basket weave' design that is easy as repeats and creates nice pattern. I did crochet one as well but perhaps not for babies as fingers might get caught in the gaps.

See what size needles for your pattern and use cotton yarn requiring the same size.

Cotton yarn can come in double knit, just knit it up in the same way.

I'm not an experienced knitter ,but I know that knitting with cotton is harder than with other fibres because it lacks stretch .
You need bamboo needles not metal .
Try a test square to see how easy it is and wash it to see how it reacts .

My mother was a superb knitter and the lady in charge of our craft group is a gifted knitter -that's where I get my information from .
I'm going to embark on my mohair project in the summer and I'll have to get her advice.

I made some winceyette//flannelette blankets for babies in warm climates.
I cut the fabric into squares,zig zapped the edges and bound them in very pretty fabric and some in satin ribbon .
They cane out well and were admired and used .
