Bribery works every time, especially a hunk of bread pudding. grin

This is my first post having just signed up with gransnet. I'm a Granddad and step-Granddad to 4 children.
Have just visited 2 of them yesterday to celebrate Nanny's birthday. None of them live nearby so meetings are few and far between and very much enjoyed.

Uh oh. Just seen the "ask a gran" topic. So there it is.

DavidH, I do Playgroup once a week (for 2 years now...), and am often the only male. Much reserve at the beginning, and I felt like I was butting in on their "mothers group". I usually end up during tidy up pulling the rolled up carpet round round the floor with loads of little happy passengers. Perhaps we need an "ask a granny" topic to balance things out. They have been doing it far longer than us after all.

grandadR & DavidH22 welcome to the GN world we have some very good discussions some are topical and some are just daft and funny but we have a good time and we could always use some Grandads advice get ready for some fun nights out when we go on our virtual parties next one scheduled for 5th May GN 1st anniversary.

Great to hear about grandads looking after their grandchildren and how fantastic to have your grandad make a bed for you! Looking forward to chatting to you both some more. smile

Just adding my name to the grandad list. Recently joined after seeing Geraldine, I think it was, speaking on a news programme about the effects of the recent Budget on grandparents. Like grandadR I agree the gender roles are changing in later generations as much as younger ones. As a single grandad - and there must be a few about - I am doing my bit in the babysitting stakes. Do feel I get a few odd looks in the local park as the only male pushing a swing for my nearly-three grandson but there you are.

Hi, add me to the list. Just joined. I'm not good at light hearted banter, don't do pubs (or beer). But I really like being Grandad. I think as gender roles in parenting are changing fast, as they are in the wide world, so they do for grann(d)s. Grannys have always taken part in childcare, it is changing as families get increasingly geographically diverse.
I am in my workshop at present making a bed for Ivy (my life has been spent making furniture) - not the "garden shed".
Anyway, ask me anything you like, and I will tell my truth as best I can.

Actually I've gone off him now. Used goods and all that. Besides, you can have too much of a good thing.

So it's back to Poppa, who is coughing his lungs out and needs lots of TLC.

Any idea how many grandfathers are now on this site? We need some male input.

Don't let on glamma but I suspect he was waylaid. I'm over him now.....(sob).....

glammanana Thu 19-Apr-12 12:50:50

Carol if you remember George came over the fence and I picked him up but I've never seen him again since that night he made a hasty retreat !!! blush

jack Thu 19-Apr-12 12:25:03

And how!

Carol Thu 19-Apr-12 10:55:50

....reatreats gracefully.......not going down THAT road again......I'll just abduct him when she not around.....no, better not, she'll be back....grin

jack Thu 19-Apr-12 10:46:46

Do you think I'd share a spare George Clooney? What do you take me for Carol?

Carol Thu 19-Apr-12 10:43:24

I'm getting so mixed up now - this isn't your DOC then? In that case, if there's a spare George Clooney lookalike going, I think I have priority! grin

jack Thu 19-Apr-12 10:31:59

DOC47. You sound lovely. You're not George Clooney's double by any chance are you? (This is the way to operate, Carol)

I'm sorry we're not related. On the other hand that's probably a good thing. Just in case we want to indulge in a mild flirtation.

My dear old chap is also a gransnetter. But I've forgotten what he calls himself!

Oh I do love men ...

@Shysal, no my mood is good lately smile. Just been busy with the grandparent thing, our grandson has had a string of minor infections that have excluded him from nursery, grans to the rescue. My car knows it's own way to them now.

Missed you pompa. You were so kind when I posted about my daughters depression. I was worried that you were going through one of your dark times, I hope not. sunshine
